I don't know who else is wrong or right but is Brooks a scoring PG?

He avg. 3.0 assists during regular season.
He totaled 9 assists in 4 games against the Lakers. He avg 3.5 assists in the playoffs as of today, that places him in 24th, behind all other teams' PGs in the playoff. He is even behind non PGs.
His ass to TO is abysmal.

If a scoring PG means all those things then you are golden. :D

Why would anyone one expect AB, a role player, to have the consistency that both Yao and Artest failed to show in the playoffs?

Wait, you are complaining about a max disparity in FG% of 27, and the BOTTOM is still 1 out of 3(33%)???

You MIGHT have something if the range went 20% at the bottom to 47% at the top.

But his BAD games this series are 3-7% lower than the regular season average that keeps getting quoted to try and debunk the fact that he is a good shooter.

Who on the Rockets outside of Scola has played consistently well in the playoffs?

    That's right...NO ONE !!

Every player has ups and downs...it is the playoffs....

    What do you expect ?

Bibby and Williams who are the PGs closest to the production of Brooks have also had wide ranging shooting percentage games as well. They have a similar overall percentage but dont go 4 for 10 or 5 for 10 every other game. They have hotter games and colder games. Heck, Mo Williams had a 1 for 11 game, and for Brooks to have done that bad he would have had to go an additional 0 for 6 in his 1 for 5 game against the Blazers.

So keep trying to downplay the positive effect Brooks has had on the Rockets this postseason. 10 games so far, and more good than bad. I think thats all they can ask from him.

Consider how you hide after certain games and show up gun blazing after other, I guess there's a difference between variation and spectacular inconsistency. The fact is, when players like Artest and Shane and Yao don't play well, they contribute to other areas. When Brooks doesn't play well, well, I'll let you fill out the rest yourself.

    ... we have Lowry.

That being said, when Brooks does play well, the Rockets are really, really good. Adelman has a fairly short leash with him still, so when he does have one of his bad games, Lowry actually gets more minutes.

But Brooks' good games shows his potential. Opponents are likening him to Tony Parker already. I think his ceiling is pretty high; if he can consistently do it (which should be the goal in 2009-2010), AB is a great starting PG.

I think this gets overlooked sometimes, that we have a solid backup this year in Lowry. When Brooks is playing poorly we have the option to actually take him out and put in Lowry.

Of the 10 play-off games this year, how many have both the PGs played terribly during the same game??

    What, 1 maybe 2??

If 80% of the time you have solid point guard play from your team, thats a great thing. And very different from what we are used to during the Rafer Alston era.

    Fixed for you.

Morey and Adelman don't have a choice right now. They don't necessarily like AB's PG play. Lowry gets more and more minutes, even closes game out has showed that.

Wasn't it said Mory treid to get Steve Nash but failed? You know it takes a lot assets to get a Nash. They wouldn't do that if they really had confidence in AB.
They might not even make the Lowry trade if they were that confident in AB, otherwise they'd just start AB and bring Alston off the bench. Alston is good than enough to be a backup PG.

The strategy is likely to get younger, get more cap space, and hope one of the PGs will pan out.

Shooting guards dont break presses like that. Even small ones. He is a SCORING point guard.

I don't think we would be in this (good) position, without Aaron Brooks.

Speaking of AB, he's on 610 right now.

AB: "When T-Mac went down, that was 20 more shots to go around. And when Deke went out, that was 2 more shots."

    Funny guy!

Kobe, Roy all breaks presses. AB is still a very poor man's Steve Francis, a shooting guard in a poing guard body.

I dont recall them being pressed to begin with. But both of those guys, if they do its because they bull their way thru the double. They sure dont do it with fancy ball handling or speed the way point guards do it. The way Brooks does it.

For real, guys like Kobe and Roy etc are all great ball handlers. But they have scoring mentality first, even though both have better court vision than AB. Still, shooting guard is their natual position. But AB is too small to play SG.

There are consistent role players in the league. They have a few things they are suppose to do and they do it well on a consistent basis. Yao and Artest not being consistent doesn't mean our role players have to be inconsistent too. The reason i want a consistent pg is bc those two aren't consistent. You can't have inconsistent players all over the place. I just happen to think good consistent pg play is a key to winning.

Okay so maybe Brooks needs to be our 2?? Let RonRon play the 3. Get an elite point guard..... but then that takes away Shane's defense in the starting lineup... so ****. Give Aaron time to develop.

Oh so you want to do it like that. Portland series Game 1 - 58.8% Game 2 - 75% Game 3 - 27.2% Game 4 - 20% Game 5 - 30% Game 6 - 45%. So there you have yourself a range of 20%-75%, with his bad games being 10-20% his career average.

I mean honestly, for you to sit here and argue about AB being consistent is kinda ridiculous. His whole thing this playoffs has been him being up for some games and down for some. And his career percentage doesn't show that he is a good shooter.

AB can shoot well but he doesn't do it on a consistent basis. If you think he REALLY shoots consistently well then we just have to agree to disagree because I don't know what you think consistent good shooting is.

I for sure don't expect 5 good games and 5 bad games. Arguing that everybody else isn't consistent except scola doesn't make brooks any less consistent. Why can't we have a scola like pg? It's too much to expect that a pg could play consistent too?

My point is that I would like a more consistent pg. Now if you feel that AB is consistent just say so and we can agree to disagree. However, I don't really think you believe that he is consistent.
