Sam, I don't think Brooks is infallible or a finished product, but I do see where the team is going with him, and I like the direction. He will be better next year because of his experience this year...we need players like him that can break down opponents defenses... He has had 2 good games, and two stinkers......that happens with young players. Would I like to have Nash.....sure...but I will take Devin Harris light right now. DD
Why are u trying to talk basketball with wrongecon? If the nba was like it was in the early 80's before u had point forwards and stuff and the pg dominated the ball, then i wouldnt like Brooks, but adelman doesnt play ball like that and people still dont understand. The offense is the pg for the most point.
Riiiiiiiiiiight, so you are saying Brooks shouldn't dominate the ball? And you are throwing out names like Steve Nash on the other hand. WTF, Nash is traditional as it can be.
You know good and well that this is not what you had in mind when you made the initial post. I already called you out on the knee-jerkiness of this thread. Brooks.Must.Make.Better.Decisions Try this one and I guarantee you a completely different thread.
Must.Take.Ball. Out.Of.Brooks'.Hands* _____ *except when he is leading us to victory in a must win game
When Bibby was getting voted onto the olympic team ahead of iverson, how many assist did he avg? When Portland was playing Detroit and Chicago in the finals, how many assist was terry porter averaging? That's all I'm saying is that just like in the triangle, there really isn't a ball dominating, decision making pg. The offense is the pg. If u don't believe me, go check the bulls under phil and the lakers with shaq. While the nash, stockton types sit at home and watch and collect assist titles, fisher, paxson, bj armstrong, and guys like that collected titles. Call it what you want, but if this team had the greatest passer ever, people would still say Yao didn't get the ball enough or take enough shots.
BucMan55: Sure, the thread was started in a knee jerk fashion, but how many pages ago was that? I think there's been some very valid criticisms of Brooks in this thread. choujie, me and others pointed out after his brilliant game 1 the holes in his game and Lakers would adjust, and in game 2 and 3 he did exactly those mistakes (over dribbling, ineffective excursions into the paint, shot clock wasting) he's been doing the whole season. Game 4 makes me look silly right now, but I stand by what I've said till I see some consistency.
yao fans always want nash. funny thing is nash plays with shaq and how many touches shaq get? nash likes to run period. and this's shaq we're talking about whom nash has a lot more respect for than yao. when was the last time nash said great things about yao...
But to complain when folks rub it in the nose of the poster who started it when AB has a good game is assinine. Oh by the way he has had 1 good game, 2 great games, and 2 avg/poor games(none as bad as game 5 when this was made) since that posting.
You can't judge Brooks on either one horrible playoff performance or one spectacular playoff performance; you judge him based on his overall performance during the entire playoff run. Obvious.
Is this the part where we point to the stat line of the guy that used to be here and lament our woes at the trade that sold our season??? Rafer 1-7 FG, 1-6 3P, 2-2 FT, 1 REB, 2 AST, 1 TO, 5 PTS
So far, in 10 playoff games, overall he has been very very good.... BEFORE tonight's stats are added in (so in the first 9 games only)he is at: Link to stats page 14.6ppg .434 FG% .400 3pt% 3.4 assists 1.7 turnovers 2.07 assist to turnover ratio Think of how many half court heaves he has taken too....about 3 or 4...so his 3pt and overall percentages are effected by that..... Now, all those stats above will go up after tonights performance, so overall, very very good. DD
and everyone else thinks your traditional labels are outdated and not appropriate in this situation. We need people who can play and Brooks is a baller. If he is overmatched, or a liability on one particular night, we have an excellent back up in the wings. As is, Brooks is having an outstanding post season. I challenege you to find three other point guards in the playoffs this season who are playing better.
Okay. Chauncey Billups - 21.1 PPG 3.6 RPG 6.8 APG 1.38 SPG 47% FG 57% 3PTFG Rajon Rondo - 18.3 PPG 9.5 RPG 10.5 APG 2.55 SPG 43% FG Mo Williams - 15.1 PPG 2.3 RPG 4.4 APG 46% FG And here's his most similar comparison: Mike Bibby - 14.2 PPG 3.3 RPG 4.5 APG 1.00 SPG 48% FG 56% 3PTFG Brooks is playing very good for a 3rd option player, next year I can see him as a 14pt - 3 rbd - 5apg type of player.
