I don't think that's the issue. I think the issue is trust, willingness to give up the ball, and, when he drives, that he gets out of control sometimes and gets lost. Some awesome point guard drive into traffic and still somehow manage to find the open man. Brooks, at that point, seems to focus on the basket and if he passes it to someone else, it is usually out of desperation and rarely leads to an easy basket. I think that he has the potential to improve on these issues - the easiest things to fix would be trust and willingness to give up the ball to Yao. The other aspect might hopefully improve over time.
He has two full seasons under his belt already. During these two seasons, the only thing he improved is 3% of 3 point shooting plus very limited defensive progress. AB hasn't improved a bit about his play making in 2 years, I don't know why some people are still so high on him.
Cutters? You want them to follow him to the hoop? Penetration and defensive rotation means...the help defender's man will be open. That means, mostly, Yao Ming or Scola will be open. Do you get the ball? Nope. (Scola gets the ball mostly not off penetration when he does get it). Watch the second half of game 5.
I don't even know if Morey loves Brooks. Rox's back court situation is terribel because of what Tmac has done, Morey doesn't have a choice but to praise AB, love him or not. Because there is no replacement yet. Lowry isn't ready either. We've heard him praising Alston, and Les does that too in this season. The next thing you know is Alston is traded.
We can use AB. He is too selfish and make too many dumb passes. Only when shot the ball well he can be useful on the floor otherwise lowry is much better runnin the team than him. lowry plays better D too.
One theory could be that by keeping Brooks in the starting lineup, despite his horrendous +/- stats, the Rockets have at least a respectable bench.

No, Brooks has been told to get by his man and attack.....that is what he is tasked with doing, that doesn't mean he is always successful at it, but he is doing his job. Clearly he can get better, but to blame a 2nd year player who has started only 30 games is just stupid, and lacks patience as to what the team is trying to do. The organization is planning for the future by getting some young guys some playoff experience. Smart, smart, smart. DD
Yes cutters, and yes follow him, at least to the FT line, to the midrange area, on the weakside...yes...cutters...basketball 101. DD
Brooks is not THE problem (I agree Artest's offensive woes are a bigger issue). But his poor decision make is certainly A problem. When he drives to the basket, he should be a) putting up a high% shot, b) driving and dishing or c) drawing a foul. He does none of these. He drives without a plan. That is his problem. DRIVE SMART, SMART, SMART. That's what he needs to do.
Mr. Clutch, He is learning, there are going to be moments of brilliance and moments of dunderheadedness. As he grows (ala Parker who was almost replaced for the same reason by Kidd in San Antonio) he will get better at it. Artest is a much bigger problem on offense right now.....much bigger. AB is not as big a problem as Ron, not by a mile. DD
Not at the cost of Rockets playoff victory. Plus, if he is learning, then he must be one of slowest learners on earth. How else can one explain he has been playing progressively worse as the series go on?
artest's issue is a separate issue. it has nothing to do with ab's. ab is learning? then he must be a slow learner. what has he learned? we've seen wafer improve as the season progresses; can we say the same to ab? ab is a problem. we used to say this in a good way. now, it's almost the opposite.
Well, there are two teams on the floor, and don't you think after he burned Portland in game one and two that they might have made an adjustment? Why not look around at the rest of the squad that needs to pick up the slack. And the Rockets are up 3-2......right? Isn't that AWESOME ! DD
such nonsense. Shane is usually in deep corner, how does he follow AB to FT line, and for what? Shane should stay where he is so he can present an outside target for AB to throw to assuming can actually penetrate and pass. basketball 101 is, pass to open big man after penetration or go up for the shot if help doesn't come.
burned them? how so? game 1 was a blowout, he scored mostly in the second half; game 2, before he scored those desperate 3's in the last couple of minutes, he only scored 11pts on a low %.
Yes, Brooks is told to be aggressive. Yes, Brooks is a 2nd year player, should take all the blame. Yes, the organization is planning for the future. And I'll add, the organization is stuck with Brooks in this playoffs, we all have to accept this as a fact. But from what I've seen in two years, Brooks simply doesn't have the potential to be the future of Rockets, not remotely close. I don't see why some posters are so high on him. Those Chris Paul, Tony Parker comparasion is laughable.
The impatient San Antonio fans were saying the same thing about Tony Parker too. PG takes time....it will come....patience young men, patience. DD
