they might have done it in practice but ur right not in a real game. i dont remember anyone doing it in a real game.
LeBron's dunk was a travel. And I agree with DoD, Carter's dunk was amazing mostly because he DECIDED to go over the guy. Jordan's dunk was amazing because of all the moves he did to 4 different players of the opposing team before the dunk. Pippen's dunk was great too. But he's a punk. Completely classless stepping over Ewing and talk trash.
The one dunk that I will always remember was KJ's dunk on Dream. It wasn't that it was that sick of a dunk but that he totally posterized the best blocker of all time. I know Dream was coming late on the help D, got full contact and still finished. I was in awe. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ifx_gRF-ouU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ifx_gRF-ouU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

You're right, there was that Clyde dunk against the Lakers way back. I mentioned that earlier. One of my favorites. Where did Vince take off from, and where was Weiss positioned? ]I haven't seen a great camera angle of that dunk, so maybe that's why it's hard for me to really get excited by it. From the looks of it, Weiss was well under the dotted line, which means he's about a foot or two away from the basket. Is it unthinkable for a guy to try to dunk it over a 7-footer who's standing so close to the basket? No, I don't think so. And while it was a great dunk, it's not like Vince cleanly leaped over him. Like a high jumper, Vince had to go horizontal to clear Weiss, and he got some help because Weiss was bending his legs and ducked his head (so it was more like dunking over a 6'11 guy instead of a 7'2 guy). Vince has those long arms and great big hands so he was able to reach to the rim and finish it off. Also, I think I'm a bit put off by it because the USA Team was acting like arrogant jerks in those Olympics, and their reaction after that dunk just sort of epitomizes that. I think people are more excited by the idea of Vince of leaping over a 7-footer to dunk the ball than the dunk itself. IMO, it wasn't a particularly elegant dunk. People call LeBron's dunks boring or whatever, but I think they look great. I'm not into all the windmill, double pump dunks that some people make a big deal about. What I look for is how impressive the trajectory of the leap is, and how high that ball gets in the air before getting slammed down. That's what made Dr. J's dunks so special, in my mind. Based on that criteria, no one today is better than LeBron.
If this is your criteria for dunking, then 90% of all dunks done shouldn't impress you because you are only concerned with the end result. It's funny that you compare Vince's dunk with a high jumper, when what you claim you're looking for is closer to a high jump than a dunk. Either way, by your standards your current favorite dunker should be Dwight Howard or Nate Robinson. Howard gets the highest and dunks the fiercest, Robinson gets the most air and impressive trajectory on his jumps. I do admittedly find it strange you compare Dr. J to Lebron. The former's dunks were so silky smooth...not powerful and efficient like James.
I'm always more impressed when a guy dunks on someone, especially a good post defender. The near ft line dunk wasn't even Lebron's best dunk. I liked the one where he dunked on Tim Duncan more.
I'm not just concerned with the end result. For me, it's largely about the trajectory the ball takes from the floor to the hoop. Nate Robinson can't dunk from as far out as LeBron, and certainly can't get as high. He's short, tough luck for him. As for Dwight Howard, again he doesn't dunk from as far out as LeBron does. I also have to factor in how the players gets his dunks. Dribbling through 3 guys and dunking on the other two -- that's impressive. Dwight Howard doesn't do stuff like that. The way LeBron will hold the ball way over his head while he's dunking, and his ability to rip through defenses and pull off those dunks in the open court, is what reminds me of Dr. J.
LeBron is going like 60 mph in the open court. It's not his fault he leaves everybody else in the dust.
I agree with you on the point that Lebron is a better in game dunker than anyone else in the game right now. I can't say that I think he's better than Vince in his prime because everything about the way Carter moved and dunked in games came so effortlessly. Certainly not with the power that LBJ has, but he wasn't a slouch either. Lebron doesn't have any creativity in his dunks, which makes him great for the game stuff, but not in the competition. I'll still be shocked if he is in it next year, his comments be damned.
