To me this is the greatest dunk of all time. Its relatively easy to perform the art of the slam dunk in a dunk contest, regardless of difficulty. Not saying its not extremely difficult (Andre Igoudoula dunk immediately comes to mind), but its an entirely different animal to perform the art of the slam dunk in actual game situations in which the result is completely improv. I encourage other examples, but the Vince Carter Olympic dunk still blows my mind and is definitely worthy of a repost. Many youtube versions, but this is the version of the classic "Office Space" song. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hSJEafn3OGU&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hSJEafn3OGU&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
I bet you would LOVE him if you actually met him... Most humble pro I have ever had the chance to meet and chat with...
I think that's an overrated dunk. The guy ducked! And it happened against non-NBA competition, so that takes it down a couple notches also. I was more impressed by LeBron's in-game, near free throw line dunk earlier this season. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/f-n8c5BK5T0&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/f-n8c5BK5T0&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Totally agreed. I mean it's obviously a great dunk, but nowhere near deserving of the hype. The main justification given is 'ZOMG HE JUMPED OVER A 7 FOOTER' but the guy basically ducked down a few inches. there wasn't even an attempt to block the shot. impressive? yes, obviously. but far from the greatest dunk ever. give me something with a guy slamming it down on someone actually jumping and trying to block him.
True the defender in the Carter dunk did duck a lil', but come on, he was 7'2"!!!! (According to the "official" measurement, which always likes to add an inch or two.) But thanks, I would like to keep this thread alive to more spectacular in game dunk videos like the Lebron dunk you provided.
this was far from the greatest dunk ever, but it's definitely my favorite, taking into account the entire play: <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/IxG6F8qKsoQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/IxG6F8qKsoQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
i'm so glad on lebron's dunk that the camera cut away from the court view to the under the basket view. it seemed like they were going to let us see how awesome it was, but at the last moment they managed to step in and ruin it. bravo basketball game producer. i never get tired of that ****ty under the basket view of fastbreak dunks. and the crazy thing is he was high enough to still throw it down into the rim and not just barely get it there. nevertheless, carter's is still crazier. how many people have jumped over 6'2 guys while dunking, much less 7'2 guys? ducking a little or not, non-NBA or not, it's friggin' ridiculous and basically unprecedented and still unmatched to this day. interesting side note, i think Team USA still only won that game by 10 points. 85-75 or something like that.
even as someone who hates jordan, i always love watching that play. to just toy with nba athletes like that. love the reaction by the announcers as he dunks it. considering how often they must have seen him do crazy stuff, even they were amazed. he did carry like a MFer on the baseline spin, but it's the nba, a carry or a travel isn't getting in the way of a great highlight.
Jordan on Ewing? I think not... Thats not even the greatest dunk by a Bull on Ewing. Here is my favorite dunk of all time. Ewing is completely dominated, its more than just a dunk. Its a microcosm of the Bulls dominance against the Knicks. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ETzpRdC6WS8&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ETzpRdC6WS8&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

You've got to be kidding me. There are plenty of people in the league who can dunk from a foot inside the ft line.

For those of you who don't think the Vinsanity dunk is impressive, you are crazy! "But the guy ducked his head..." I don't care, look at VC's determination as he approached the full 7-footer and jumped over him - he didn't even look at him for a second, eyes focused on the rim only. And that's why the Frenchman ducked, because he didn't want his head taken off, but he got a full facial teabagging instead. Let me see LBJ jump OVER Joel Prizbilla or Pau Gasol during a dunk, then I'll be impressed.
