I can understand leaving early if it's a blowout win against a lesser foe that has little meaning. However when people were leaving the Game 5 Utah win mid-4th quarter that freaking pissed me off. In games like that, if you show up you have to support the team. Leaving is disrespectful and a disgrace. I heard one guy call in afer Matt Jackson called those people out and he railed about he has kids who have to go to school with him. I think ok, then why the **** are you at the game if you have kids who have to wake up early? It's a ridiculous double standard. If you can't stay, don't go. I don't know. I say that but there's always different circumstances and you can't judge when you don't know anything, like Longhornfan showed. I just wish we had what Utah has (only thing from utah I want) A lower bowl that is entirely into the game and there for every second. These snobs who don't pay attention irritate the hell out of me. I hope their Mercedes break down and their kids end up being brats
Yeah, I can see where you were going pertaining to his post. You're pretty not good at relaying your thoughts on the web.
Anybody else embarrassed Ron Artest has publically addressed the problem? He is hinting that the Houston area based fans havent been so good. How about we just put the Rowdies in the middle bowls. Im sure they wouldnt have a problem with that seat upgrade.
The one thing I remember from the Summit days and the lower bowl, even the suits were into the games. I seriously think this had to do with there not being cell phones invented for the regular guy, and the stupid bars in Toyota Center where everyone wants to "be seen". You were either at your seat cheering, into the game, or gone. It's a different time, and the atmosphere does suck here compared to the old days. The game I attended against the Jazz, 15 rows up, there were no less than 8 empty seats in our isle. I know they're owned buy corporations, but hell, give them to charity or something and let the fans attend. It's a disgrace seeing empty seats ever, much more so to a heated rival.
I didnt become a big Rocket fan until Steve Francis's rookie season so I am somewhat unfamiliar with the Summit. Were there even places for the "coorporates" to even hang out. Someone should start their own thread on this subject its pretty interesting.
I was in my early twenties then, and if there were, I wasn't familiar with them. If you watch the Clutch City videos of our championships, even during the regular season you could see how different the crowd was. It was a much closer to the court atmosphere, and just seemed more intimate. I remember being second row, giving high fives to Horry, Thorpe, Cassell, Maxwell (who really tried to ignore me but I caught his finger ) and Tracy Murray who even took pictures with us. Now at shoot arounds, it seems like you're a mile away from the court, too much security, and it seems like nobody really cares. They're just "there". It's really a shame.
Sounds to me like the Houston fans were spoiled with those championships and are not patient enough to support their team until the playoffs. I have been to every single playoff game since the Laker series to last year and I thought our crowds were pretty good. I went to the Houston game when they were in Dallas( start of the season this year) and Dallas fans were loud and into it the whole time. Their was also no places for the Coorporates to hang out except for in the suites and that can only hold so many people.
When it comes to the Rockets, you nailed it, for whatever reason. Houstonians are known bandwagon fans. The only game I left early this year was against Golden State, and I really didn't mean to start the hate fest, it's was just my $.02. Sorry buddy. I couldn't score tickets for the Cavs, but no matter what, I would not have left that game early. BTW- I've sat in the suites (Fed EX Party Suite mostly) and there were MAYBE 30 people out of around 100-200 in there even half way paying attention to the game. Same in the bars in the lower level. It's more like a "douche" club there to "be" there and they could give a rats ass about the game. My seats are in the location where you have to enter by way of the bar, and I only go in there to use the private bathrooms. I truly miss the Summit, as crappy as it was.
The thing I absolutely hate about Toyota Center is that is is PHYSICALLY built to cater the upper-scale crowd. If I'm not mistaken, the "Club Seat" section is exclusive (the place where you see ushers outside the door, leading into the luxurious bar) and only those with those special tickets gain access to those sections, which are the sections on the lower-level sides of the arena that appear on camera (that make us look so terrible). Also, I remember having to go to a meeting at Toyota Center. I was instructed to park in the Tundra Garage, and there is this exclusive tunnel connected from the garage heading toward the level with the suites. There is no other way to this section, and no other way out. Purely catered for the people with the suites. They have absolutely no contact with anyone else. Now you think about the upper level. There is ONE escalator for all (guessing) 7-9,000 fans up there. They couldn't even build multiple access points, not to mention significantly less leg room (and I'm talking significant). I don't know, all these things just irritate me. It's a business, I know. But it's come to a point where the spirit of being a fan and have an uproarious home court is being denied. I've thought this for a while now, but if the only way the organization is able to "keep the lights on" at Toyota Center is to sell all their lower-level tickets to the corporate crowd, then the Rockets must have one disgraceful marketing team. That to me is the easy way out. Yes, they have done their job to get those tickets sold, but this organization needs, dare I say, a Mark-Cuban type culture instilled in that front office. You can sell tickets and still have the house roaring. Just see Dallas, Sacramento, etc. This is one aspect about being a Rockets fan that I am just ashamed about.
Yeah I can't stand the lower bowl fans at Toyota Center, but last night I bought 10 dollar seat, and by 2nd quarter I sat 3 rows behind Cavs bench cause nobody sits in there damn seats and just got into the club level and once ur in there you can walk whereever, I stayed till the end and was loudest one in my section and everybody in my section 121 acted like they were too good to get on there feet and cheer, then they all left midway thru the 4th.
No hate here, I just look for a good argument on here sometimes either if im right or wrong. Its fun talking basketball with people of your knowledge compared to some people who have yet to get down the english language. Hopefully when we make the playoffs the bowl seats are filled with good fans who are willing to lose their voices. I feel like this team has the potential to do some serious damage in the playoffs. I watched the Denver/Laker game tonight and noticed that Denver gave the Lakers fits by packing the lane. I am one firm believer that this Houston team is capable of anything with the chemistry I have. A team like Detroit(championship squad) is the mold we should try to duplicate and it is certaintly possible.
this thread was supposed to talk about the interview. and it's obviously derailed now. why should i go past the 1st page?
