I have a Nexus One (which comes unlocked out of the box), so my information may not be applicable, but Android should be tied to your Google account.
Too big, IMO. That will look kinda silly held up to your face, just like the EVO does. Of course, this is coming from someone that likes 10-12" laptops (I like my portable devices to be... portable).
Try going into the Settings > Accounts & Sync and then sign out of that gmail account. The settings screen might be a little different on the old G1 but snoop around and you might find it. iFail. Its hilarious that the first ever Android phone, G1, had the ability to multitask and the $500 current iPhone couldn't even do that. Apple is great but the only thing that separates them from the rest are the apps. Android is catching up though. With Flash support along with HTML5, developers will be lining up.
Yeah thanks, I did that, but now when I try to enter my google account it says my sim doesn't support the phone or something. I think its because my plan doesn't have internet package.
I have a G1 smart phone, and I was getting a @ symbol on the left top side of the screen, but then today it was gone. Does anybody know what that stands for? I know it means at, but for the phone.
Really digging it. It's my first smartphone and it's changed how I do a lot of things already. I <3 technology. I also ended up using LauncherPro to customize the dock and put more useful icons down there (with the newest update, you can even swipe it). Thanks for the recommendations everyone. Here's some of my own must-have apps after a week of use: Swype - the standard for typing on handhelds in the near future LauncherPro - replaces Sense, too bad it doesn't run Sense widgets ESPN ScoreCenter SpringPad - notes, tasks DolphinBrowser - tabbed browsing Apps Organizer - organize Apps like folders (easier than the standard way) System Panel - check running apps, kill them if you like Movies - Rotten Tomatoes, local theater times, and Netflix all in one app HootSuite - my favorite web interface for twitter, great on Android too...particularly to manage multiple accounts I've avoided ATK since there are varying opinions on using it (helps/hurts), and I think it's ridiculous we still have to use something like this in this day and age...I remember using something like this on Windows XP to free up memory leaks periodically.
I want to make the move to LauncherPro because I have heard so many good things about it and it seems to hit a sweet spot in terms of having both functionality and customization, but some of the Sense widgets already populate my home screens. Some of the most downloaded/best selling Android apps are actually ones that try to emulate the Sense widgets, but they are lacking in the quality/refinement of the real thing. I hate that it boils down to an either/or decision. Hopefully, Android's core UI and quality of apps/widgets increases in the future so I can make the move back to stock Android and not have to worry about such things. Swype killed the Moto Droid for me. After it was released, I never cracked open the hardware keyboard and got tired of lugging around the extra width and weight. I can never see my myself going back to a hardware keyboard or even a regular touchscreen keyboard now. It's made by the same devs that created T9, and I definitely see it becoming as prevalent as that in the future. I haven't had a chance to look into ScoreCenter, but I can also recommend Sports Tap and ScoreMobile. Sports Tap does have some neat goodies in it like Accuscore and really robust Matchup/Preview pages, even though I like ScoreMobile better for just quickly checking scores across an entire sport.
I have an iPhone, but I'm sure there are Android versions of IHeartRadio (Clear Channel's app) and CBS Radio app.
not really an app, but this miui rom is really, really nice. i was using myn's rls5 with an alternate kernel before (and it was nice), but still couldn't get used to android's widgets and app drawer after having this evo for the past four months. just seemed messy. anyhoo, the whole ui has changed with this rom. buttery smooth and there's no app drawer... everything's right there when you turn on the phone. no more clunky widgets getting in the way (don't feel the need to use them now with this rom). a lot of themes (though default is best, imo). maybe i will keep this phone 'til summer.
Highly recommend Poweramp for music playback. First app I actally paid for after the trial period in a long time. Trial version:
It's a ROM, you have to root your phone and flash that onto it. Way too complicated for a novice user, if you ask me. Must-have apps: I'll reiterate LauncherPro, just makes things way easier. Fancy Widgets for the Sense-like home weather/flip clock. Music PlayerPro has the best interface & options out of the mp3 players. Applanet for getting all of these things free.
