TuneIn Radio https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=tunein.player&hl=en I like it so much , I bought the pro version.
i've been searching numerous sites "must have android apps" lists. gotta say the two i see a lot are: evernote airdroid i gotta say, neither seem to appeal to me that much. just dont think i'd need/use em. what am i missing with them? seems like just about everything stock android is good enough.
I don't use evernote, but airdroid is fantastic! I use it when I'm at home to send/receive text messages through my laptop (beats typing on the tiny screen any day). Also us it to transfer files to/from my phone. I find it VERY handy.
It's great. One of the best free apps from the free apps of the day @ amazon. I would have paid for it too. (pro version was free)
Airdroid is amazing. Also, Pocket is a must have app. I can list a lot more if you guys are interested.
These are the ones that I generally recommend to others: - Reddit sync (best reddit app IMO) - Whatsapp (A developer version where you can apply themes is available here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1624514) - Falcon pro for twitter - Falcon widget for android - Another Music Player (AMP) - TuneIn Radio - Any.do to do list - Pocket - Flipboard news reader - Podkicker or Antennapod - Keyboard - Swiftkey 3 (not a fan of gesture based keyboards. Among the gesture-based ones, I found Swype and Kii interesting) - Snapseed (For photo editing) - Feedly if you are using google reader - Solid Explorer or ES file explorer) - Llama ( you have to learn to use this app. but it is damn cool) - Sportacular ( best sports app in my opinion) - Fotmob (if you follow soccer) - Alarmdroid or sleep as android - Appsales (for tracking sales offers on google play) - Better battery stats - camscanner - Dcikonz (best icons pack) - Mightytext - Airdroid - Aix weather widget or eye in the sky weather - Nova Launcher - Battery widget reborn - Dolphin browser (with Jetpack) - Mx player - Runkeeper - Out of milk - Money Lover - wordweb - Evernote - Ultimate custom clock widget (with themes from XDA - great stuff) - Cerberus anti theft (bought this - fantastic anti-theft app. there is also a free app for this. forgot the name) Any recommendations you guys have?
I would also recommend Handcent for SMS. Prefer it to Whatsapp. Photo Editor by dev.macgyver is fantastic as well. ES is my file manager of choice on my phone. Total Commander is what I use on my Android Tablet. The best launcher, hands down. True to stock, with plenty of tweaks, and FAST! Used to get knocked for being unstable, but that's not really an issue any more. Will not use Dolphin any more since it's not as fast as it used to be and had some pretty severe security issues. I'm back to using stock browser with no complaint, though I will occasionally use Boat Browser as well. Good player. BS Player is my media player of choice, though Dice Player is also very good.
Thanks! Trying it out now, a few minor quibbles but so far so good. I like TuneIn as well, but I just use it for streaming live radio (NPR, local sports from different cities). I subscribe to a lot of podcasts and like to keep a queue list going. TuneIn doesn't have that, nor downloading podcasts (at least in the free one). And you have to check each podcast individually to see when new episodes are out. Evernote is a must have desktop app for myself, so using the mobile app as an extension of that is great. I don't know think I'd use it just on mobile though.
what is a launcher exactly? whats it do? you have to root the phone for it? sorry total newb to android.
A third party launcher is a must-have IMO. Install Nova launcher (there are many, but I prefer this) and starting fiddling around with its settings. You will slowly realize why it is essential
Sure! If you are power user when it comes to podcasts, I keep hearing that BeyondPod and Doggcatcher are really good (if you are ready to pay) BeyondPod in particular gets a lot of rep - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mobi.beyondpod I think you can try it out for free for a week and then buy Otherwise, Antennapod should do just fine
ehh looked at some vids about nova launcher on youtube...not my cup of tea. i don't see the need to be able to change the icon size and little things like that. same with screen animations and such. stock settings look to be just fine for me
I'm on a Galaxy S3. The usefulness for me is: hiding unused (but uninstallable) apps in the app drawer a much better dock - swipe to rotate multiple docks and more customizeable with folders and swipeable actions modify buttons - I set my home button to bring up recently used apps when I'm on a homescreen swipe down anywhere on a homescreen to show notifications so I don't have to reach for the top swipe up anywhere on a homescreen to go to my center homescreen Etc, etc...For me it's nothing to do with looks and all about adding much more functionality and convenience. Just FYI in case you weren't aware that there's more than just visual tweaks. The one visual thing I used is adding an additional row of icons.
anyone try google keep yet? apparently its their version of evernote...though its slimmed down...i'm sure more options will be added over time.
Some really nice recommendations here. Thank you sir. I actually pretty much use Chrome all the time as my web browser now. The desktop sync features are more useful than one would think, and performance is pretty good now. I've played with many Twitter clients. Plume is the best. Every other one just doesn't seem to measure up. The only one that comes close is Seesmic, but its notifications are finicky.
