I think it would be wrong to say that the majority of Muslims supports violence against non-Muslims. But it should be allowed to question what the causes are that more than 70 % of terror fatalities worldwide are caused by Sunni Muslim extremists. http://www.webcitation.org/query?ur..._NCTC_Annual_Report_Final.pdf&date=2012-08-04 It should also be allowed to criticize putting women into mobile jails, intolerance towards people holding other beliefs, discrimination against homosexuals, restrictions against freedom of speech and freedom in general, etc. etc. etc.
That statement is simply not true. when talking about 'war mongers' ,and 'aggression', the Christians are like 10 times more than Muslims.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Age_of_Caliphs.png Don't get offended, I'm simply adding to the debate. I'm not talking about Christians here, I realize that there have been many wars in the name of Christ that were incorrect, and those people were wrong for their beliefs. But the debate isn't about Christianity, so i'll stay off that subject. According to the map, there was aggression in terms of land conquering shown by the Muslim people. So it's been more than just 50 years.
That's a tiny area on the world map and it was 1500 years ago. Muslims are very peaceful in their 1500 years of history before the oil was found in Iran.
You're talking about ancient times. These were dates where a whole NATION's ideology focused on expanding and creating an empire. Imperialism, my good man. It's not different for religions of that time. Every culture, nation, and group had the goal of expanding their grasp. Showing a map of a country's conquered lands is just useless. But I do see what you're trying to say. Look in any history book. You'll see numerous chapters that focus on the countless empires that took over the eras of the planet, from Great Britain to Alexander the Great.
Spain to Afghanistan "is a tiny area on the world map". Dude, that's almost as big as the Roman Empire, are you telling me the Romans were very peaceful? Or that the Ottomans were peaceful, or the Barbary Pirates were peaceful? Bigtexx is an idiot, but don't whitewash it the other way while you're at it. Pretty much everyone was a giant d******d a 1000 years ago. Really, they still are.
I don't know about the details about collateral damage in Afghanistan, but I do know about the double-tap drone strikes in Pakistan. That is the US has a primary drone strike and then does a second drone strike to kill all first responders who render the victims any kind of medical aid. Hundreds of CHILDREN have been killed in Pakistan from US drone attacks (most being in the past few years). While we may be killing bad people in these drone attacks, I very much worry we may actually be creating more terrorists than we are killing. I don't blame the American people for this terrible policy - they are mostly naive about what the government does in their name. As an American I will try to politically support people who are anti-war and understand that war is hell and should be the very last resort to solve our issues. That is why I haven't voted for a Republican in my life even though I consider myself a fiscal conservative....
In theory, the most efficient way to support people who are anti-war is to get rid of people in other countries who are very much pro-war: pro-war for a war with YOUR country. If you take these people out of their position of power, the anti-war people in that country will gain power. That makes your country safer. It's easy to pretend to be a pacifist and say "I'm anti-war" until those guys on the other side who are "pro-war" are attacking you.
I've lived in America my whole life - how do you expect me to have influence on what goes on in Pakistan or any other Muslim country? And who are you referring to when you say "take these people out of their position of power"? Are you talking about leaders of these countries - if so - which ones? I supported the US going into Afghanistan and getting the people who attacked us. Had Bush been more focused on getting the man responsible we might have finished the job earlier. Iraq was a total abomination that was dreamed up, pushed for, and executed by the Neo-Cons who still control the foreign policy narrative of the Republican party. As long as Republicans are not willing to admit Iraq was a mistake and continue to endlessly defend the horrible disaster that was George W. Bush, I WILL NOT VOTE FOR THEM....
Btw, how do you feel about double-tap drone strikes? Do you consider them something a civilized nation like the US should do? Or is it okay since it is just brown people who are dying?....
I don't mean you personally. I mean the USA and its allies. People like the Taliban. Fair enough. Your post was the first time I heard about them. Doesn't sound like something I would support, since - as you describe it - it sounds like it specifically targets helpers. It's hard for me to believe that this would be true.
Believe it or not, they are quite real. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2013/jan/24/un-examine-uk-afghanistan-drone-strikes
To all the people who truly believe that Islam and Muslims are bad. I apologize that you have had a poor experience and or people have not represented Islam well. If you truly believe that Islam supports terrorism, I can only try my best to show you that that is the exact opposite. Islam promotes peace and submission to God, not blind killing of the innocent. Yes, I am sure in some of the poorer, less fortunate countries, there are extremists teaching the wrong lessons and giving the wrong message to brainwashed individuals. But I highly doubt that it is only Muslims or the religion of Islam where this kind of thing happens. I honestly feel like the US media has decided since 9/11 that Muslim terrorists is the easiest way to explain major issues. Much like during the days of civil rights where Blacks were blamed for a majority of bad issues, and much like finding jobs and the immigration discussions usually leads to illegal immigrants (mainly Mexicans being served as scape goats) are blamed for this major issue. If all the information you get is from the media, you are most likely ill informed and being manipulated. If you ask any other country about the views on Israel, I am almost certain they are polar opposite of that of the US. I will end with something relevant to the subject at hand. Muslim terrorism is indeed a problem. So is Christian terrorism, Jewish terrorism, Atheist terrorism, any kind of terrorism really. Let's end the terrorism by ending the ignorance and brainwashing!
WHY is the suspect's religion only relevant and brought up when he happens to be Muslim? We condemn those acts, it is forbidden to kill any innocents. It's a shame how you're too ignorant to realize this. Glad to see not all of you have this mentality. There will always be a group of people who are extreme, doesn't mean they're right. IF these brothers did do the Boston Marathon Bombing, then a source said it was because they were upset about what was happening in Afghanistan and Iraq. The U.S. soldiers have killed roughly 1.5 million innocent civilians in Iraq. Innocent men, women, and children. What do you have to say about this? Regardless, this does not make what happened right at all, but there have been A LOT more innocents killed by americans than vice versa, and it's really no comparison.
1) The suspect's religion is relevant because they are killing in the name of Islam. They even said so. 2) Please read the thread and stop being lazy. Your point about innocents killed as collateral damage in Iraq/Afghanistan has been addressed already. There's no comparison between collateral damage and cowards who train and whose sole purpose is to murder innocents.
Tell that to the families of dead victims of collateral damage. At the end of the day collateral damage and terrorism have the same end state.... dead civilians. So yes there is a comparison.
1) Proof that they said this? One of the brothers is dead, so what do you mean by saying 'they' even said so? Even if the sole brother did say it, that doesn't mean he was right. If all Muslims had this mentality, don't you think events like this would be happening much more often? Not to judge, but based on what we know from the younger brother, he wasn't even a fully practicing Muslim since he admittedly did drugs based on his old tweets. 2) I have read, and there is a comparison, stop trying to beat around the bush.
