So what do you want them to do? Thank Terry Jones for only threatening to burn the Koran as a bargaining trick and cheap publicity? Or thank the USA for the bigotry we displayed through the mosque uproar painting all American muslims with the same brush as extremist terrorists? Clearly they should be grateful that Americans only talked about burning their holy book and backed out at the last minute because that's obviously how civilized people conduct themselves. And how do you know that Sharif el-Gamal or whoever else is linked to the center wouldn't condemn this video if they saw it? All we have is you riled up and painting all muslims with the same brush... some dudes are burning a flag so all muslims are hypocrites.

If a logical consistency actually matters to you despite your post the dude in Florida wanted to burn some Korans. The jackasses in the clip are not burning the bible. They're burning an effigy of a particular awesome American and an American flag representing to them the bigotry they feel displayed by America in the Islamic center controversy and in our policies in the Middle East. It may not matter to you but a bible is not a flag... both acts are provocative but the message being sent is not actually identical... one is a blanket statement about religion and the other a political statement about a particular incident. I'm not asserting a valuative statement on which is better or worse... but they're simply not consistent

Not that Americans are consistent, I've seen people applaud Ian McKellen talk about tearing out pages of hotel bibles that condemn homosexuality which is one step from actually burning the books and in the same spirit. And then go on about respecting others' rights and beliefs. For what it's worth to the people who tried to make a blind comparison in this thread, when they burn the flag over there as a symbol of American/Zionist aggression it's analogous to defacing or caricaturing their image of Muhammad as a symbol of Islam. One is a cult of personality embodied in an individual's image and the other is a symbolic piece of cloth but every culture has something that is the highest symbol of their beliefs that they will not stand to be disrespected. It doesn't have to make sense.

Every moral person is obligated to serve their own conscience before country. You think Nazis or Imperial Japanese who committed atrocities for their nation acted properly? In the US, our Founding Fathers themselves drew legitimacy not from the Constitution or the government but the other way around. Their values came from their religious and philosophical beliefs and from those values they created a Constitution as an instrument of those beliefs. If there was a conflict between the two which one do you think Jefferson or Ben Franklin would amend? That one is a no brainer.

I saw a hand written sign on cardboard that said "Kill anyone that disrespects Muhammed."

Surely those were just fanatical fake Muslims, and Islam doesn't actually condone killing anyone.

a cardboard sign? wow, you haven't seen the crazies who say jesus does not like gays, tries to kill abortioners in the name of god, etc.

There are fanatics in every religion, sadly due to the time these books of all religions were written in much of it can me misconstrued in translation or adaptation to this time. Ultimately the common theme in most of the books is about peace, its a couple people who like to take their own agenda, nitpick what they can, and do it, its not radical islam, its the radical muslims, its not radical christianity, its the radical christians. The religions don't say or do anything, they are abstract, its the people who do it. Thats why you can find a billion peaceful christian and muslims who consider themselves devout and then you can find the crazies like osama and hitler who also said he was being a good christian and the jews were attacking his country so on, etc.

But you hardly see normal muslims come out and denounce any wrong doing of these radical muslim. The reason we got saddam is because people corporateg with us in capturing him. I think the reason we can't get rid of radical islam is due to islam belief that said all islam are brother and sister and i guess they don't want to turn on their brother no matter how badly they might act or deep down they approve of what these people are doing.

Some people compare radical islam to KKK but you can't really compare Islam to Christianity, KKK claimed to be a christian but most white people back then properly aren't approve of hanging black or whipping them in the street and there always been a large number of christian that disapprove of KKK' movement.

Its seem trouble seem to follow where there are a large population of Islam. In southern part of Thailand, radical muslims kill teachers right infront of their student and its a common knowledge that their goal is for the south to be separated and join with malaysia.

I know that every religion have their lunatic and crazy but Islam seem to have more for some reason.

Actually, you will rarely find sympathizers of the Al-Quaeda adn Taliban, I don't get where you get these ideas of them considering other muslims brothers vice versca, you do realize who the taliban and Al-quaeda have killed the most of? Muslims....yea they have hurt, killed, defaced, terrorized more muslims than anyone. The news doesn't portray this, but infact I haven't come across many muslims who don't openly talk of these crazies as terrorist and our enemies, especially here in america. But the news doesn't get ratings by putting a student like myself, or moderates on there. The crazy with a beard screaming at the top of his lungs makes a better story. You want to hear moderates denounce this, here Imam Rauf talk about it in his old speeches and interviews, infact al-quaeda has tried to kill him, but they still call him a radical. Read up interviews by the Aga Khan. Its all out there, but sadly its not all publicized.

Its not more for some reason, it just so happens that right now these countries are in turmoil, in the middle east region, so that brings about the crazies, their political and economical turmoil. When islam was in the moorish period and other periods, they flourished and lived in tolerance peace and infact bought about medical, scientific advances in the world at that time. It was the same religion and same book, just these circumstances aren't islamic circumstances, its socioeconomic and political issues more than anything.

I'm sorry, but that is a myth to a large extent. Not that christianity would have been a lot more peaceful, but the concept of "dhimmis" existed at the time already and Islam was spread with the sword back then already.

The situation in the south of Thailand hasn't really been well know outside of Thailand, but its has been going on for decades. I could certainly see your point about socioeconomic but you still can't ignore that there are more radical islam than let said Buddhism or christianity. Thailand is not exactly rich, but Thailand don't have problem with radical Buddhist blowing stuffs up or killing people. Its the radical islam that does all of this and one of the problem in rooting out the radical is that they have help, lots of help.

I have seem many posters on here keep bring up the past, that Muslim live in peace with other people but that was then. In the present, Islam seem to be a religion of intolerance and fill with hate. Yes i have seen you tube video of many scholar of islam (whome live in the western societies) comming out and denounce there terrorists. But you have to understand that many people are having a hard time viewing Islam to be anything but violence and hate is because its has been going on for so long and it doesn't seem to be any changes for the better. I don't know how easy it is for a change to happen in the middle east, but i suspect it can't happen with US taking active role. Its has to be country in the middle-east itself, i can only think of saudi that has enough money to do this, but they are not doing anything and there are many rumors that they them self are funding terrorist activities around the world.

I do feel bad for good people who are islam, all i can tell you is try to educated the public and grown into a bigger movement yourself. In the past one of the reason America doesn't get as bad of a rep during the time of KKK, in Thailand anyway, is because many missionary are white. Many Thai people back then equate white with America, and these white American missionary goes to places that even thai's people wont go and help those in need. So when the new came out that said American doesn't like people who are not white, it is hard to believe since they can see it with their own eyes that these white american missionary go and devote themself in helping those people who are not white. I guess you guys can try that route, but i understand being islam has many restrictions, but this is the best advice i can give.
