I wish I would have stuck with the piano as well... I didn't even start playing the drums until 21.. now 35.
Started alto sax in the 6th grade and I can still play it, but it's getting older now and the octave key doesn't respond as it should. I've been meaning to get it to a shop. I also like to think I can sing better than most. I have a guitar but haven't learned how to do much more than single chords (as in no songs yet) and I would absolutely love to learn piano.
Devote your time to learning piano, guitar will come easier to you after learning how to play a keyboard...at least that is what I have always heard anyway. Makes sense tho....you learn about how to put together chords on the keys and that would be very helpful in doing the same on guitar.
not necessarily true.. i've known two personally.. who started on the piano.. and played for years.. but could never make much progress on the guitar..
Guitar, piano (some organ experience), recorder, drums (a bit), blues harp, and, yes, just a bit of accordion. And I sing with Austin Lyric Opera.
I'm the reverse. Been playing guitar for over 40 years, professionally for half that time. The only things I can play on piano are "Chopstix" and a very weak version of Bill Withers' "Lean On Me".
I play the trumpet. Have played for about 20 years now. Went to college on a music scholarship for a music education degree, but after a couple of years I realized that I didn't truly want to do that anymore and now I work in IT. I still play though.
Electric bass for 21 years... upright bass for 15 years... but now I'm all over the electric guitar (or I try to be).
Been playing drums (and percussion) for about 30 years now. Got my first kit at age 8 and never looked back. Played all through high school and college, got my BA in Music, played in several touring bands in and after college and now play in an 11-piece variety band which I've been in since 2001. I play piano as well. I can hammer out tunes, but I suck at sight-reading, so it takes me a long time to figure songs out. I'm trying to ween myself off playing by ear and become better at sight-reading by practicing on hymnals. Very frustrating... I play guitar too. I have 2 electrics and 1 acoustic. I could probably hang in a band as a rhythm guitarist, but I can't solo or improv to save my life. Again, very frustrating... I can sing backups as long as I can hear myself. You need someone to sing the 3rd, 5th, 7th, or unison, I'm your man. But I wouldn't subject my worst enemy to my lead vocals, or lack thereof. I have about a 1 octave range. I also play the skin flute, but not as much as I did when I was single...
Does it count that I'm MIMS'(rapper) cousin? Probably not. Oh well. I played the recorder in third grade, and that's the extent of my musical capability.
I played Clarinet in school...doubtful I could play anything but "Mary Had A Little Lamb" at this point.
Both my son and I play the guitar. There are a total of 5 Acoustics, 2 Electrics and one Bass guitar in our home. One piano and one sax.
I play violin pretty well, and I play a little piano. I've actually written a song on the piano, including writing out all of the music, but I can't exactly sight read on the piano like on the violin. I also sing fairly well, tenor and/or bass. I tend to sing tenor a lot because most guys can't, but it's easier to fall back into bass. I did win a karaoke contest once singing Dream On by Aerosmith, but I haven't done karaoke in several years thanks to American Idol.
