you reference 2 bands whom i only like one of their albums and dont care much for the rest of the catalogue smashing pumpkins - gish - their first album, which is totally different than everything that came out afterwards. great hendrixian psychedlic rock w/ lots of shredding by billy. how in the hell did they go from this to that machina garbage? white stripes - never liked them till get behind me satan came out. thats the only record of theirs i listen to - reminds me of the stones beggars banquet.
HELL NO! he actually lost me when he started wearing the zero shirt all the time (right around melloncollie and the infinite sadness, which really didnt hold up well over the years). he must have had like 20 of those shirts. but the silver pants and cape was pretty rediculous. i saw them in 93 on the siamese dream tour and he wasnt like that at all. the transformation occurred very suddenly. i hold it against billy more than others b/c that first album was so great and they showed such great promise. gish, pearl jam's 10 and nevermind all came out about the same time and i always liked gish way more than the other 2. everything they did from there on out was downhill and at times just tacky. but i got the receeding hairline too and i keep it pretty short, so i aint gonna fault another baldie for shaving his head.
You could have picked any Pantera album, and you pick freakin' FAR BEYOND DRIVEN? Man, the first four tracks on that disc are the most dense batch of metal you're going to find. This album completely codified their sound! I mean, you could have at least said "Metal Magic" or even "Reinventing the Steel." Ok, ok, I'm calm again. I actually have a somewhat controversial pick myself: Helmet's Betty. It's a supposed classic but I never listen to this turd. Another in the same boat would be Faith No More - King for a Day, Fool for a Lifetime.
"Synchronicity" -The Police (this is one of the most overrated albums ever) "Be Here Now" -Oasis (well, they aren't my favorite, but this is where the rot set in on a once decent band). "Goodbye Cruel World" -Elvis Costello (the worst 80's production ever..horrible keyboards) "All That You Can't Leave Behind"/"How to Disable an Atomic Bomb" -U2 (with one, or two exceptiongs these are bland, safe and pompous albums). "Bridges to Babylon" -Rolling Stones (yuck...has anyone ever listened to this record more than once?) "Psychoderilect" -Pete Townshend (just horrible...pretentious windbag) "Never Let Me Down" -David Bowie (proof that even the coolest people ever have a dog in them...a cubic zirconia dog, rather than a diamnond one, at that) Whatever the latest Weezer album is called- Weezer (this album made absolutely no impression on me at all).
Agreed although I hate "By the Way" a little bit more..... Everything sounds ridiculously cheesy, and Flea is an afterthought instead of leading the charge..... Its like what happened to the funk?!?!? Blood Sugar, and Mother's Milk were gems.
Hated it, except for a few tracks, but otherwise forgetable. They always play the title track on tour and thats my piss break or beer pickup song. I hate that rap in the middle.....
Blood and Chocolate,Goodbye Cruel World - Elvis Costello, I thought GCW was just a blip until Blood & Chocolate came out and then I really started to worry. Uh Huh Her - PJ Harvey, after 4 years and this all she could come up with? Don't Tell a Soul - The Replacements, a few good songs but very disappointing. Trying to sound way too slick and radio friendly.
yes, it is definately her weakest album. im afraid pj jumped the proverbial shark w/ that one. ill just keep listening to rid of me.
I agree, that is their worst one by far, I could listen to MOG and Fashion Nugget all day, my top two favorites. Here is one I think sucked bad...Van Halen III
One Hot Minute was their worst IMO... the funk was still there, but the songs were disjointed and couldn't ever seem to figure out which direction they were going. It's like they wrote, produced, and recorded the whole thing while high and didn't go back and check it when they were sober.
Actually, the Chili's and Dave Navarro later agreed that bringing him in was kind of a bad idea in hindsight. They all knew Dave couldn't play funk. Dave never found a comfort zone as a player. It just wasn't the style of music he was good at. I believe they are all still really good friends though. Now, if you really want to hear them play the funk, check out their first album and/or Freaky Styley with the late great Hillel Slovak on guitar.
Technically, Some Devil is not a Dave Matthews Band song, it is a solo album. I agree that Stand Up is the worst of the DMB albums (meaning my least favorite, as no music is really better or worse than any other).
An album that a lot of people think suck is The Soft Parade by The Doors, even though I think it is a secret gem.
Presto sucked more. The whole things sounds like it was recorded in a Campbell's soup can. Note: i'm a Rush fan, though! I like some good old stuff... Fly by Night, 2112, A farewell to kings, Hemispheres, Permanent Waves, Moving pictures, Signals, Grace Under Pressure, Power Windows, Hold Your Fire... and that's about where I stop.
Well if you mean because it was their commercial breakthrough and that they lost their edginess, then I would agree with you. I actually think the worst Cult album was the self-titled one with the ram on the cover. That album has been listened to by me like twice. Nothing memorable at all on it.
