someone wrote a book about the recording of revolver and the beatles during that period. the whole thing is online to be read for free. kind of interesting and a worthwhile read if you have an hour or so to kill. apparently, during this time it was paul who was getting all experimental and avant-garde. john was living an hour outside london w/ wife and kid. paul was living 5 minutes from abbey road and hanging out with all the london artist and hipster elite. he was the first one to get into tape splicing and stuff (the tape splicing on tomorrow never knows was paul, not john as i had thought).

    my listening...
the byrds - sweetheart of the rodeo - not a big byrds fan, but i love my gram parsons. if you want to know where the eagles stole their entire act from this is the source.

prince - sign o' the times - my favorite prince record.

camper van bethoven - our beloved revolutionary sweetheart.

    xtc - drums and wires.

the cure - kiss me, kiss me, kiss me - my favorite cure record.

Ok, first off, who is this author? Not many details in his "About The Author" link. Secondly he states that he is not a writer. Thirdly who are his sources?

The backwards music you hear in "Tomorrow Never Knows" was all John's doing. Paul had NOTHING to do with it.

John told the story himself, how he came home one night from partying. They had been working on the song earlier in the day, and he had the Acetate (studio Tape) of the recording at home. Well in his drunken/stoned state, he put the tape on the wrong way and it played backwards. The next day he went to the studio and thats the way he wanted the song done. Paul had nothing to do with it.

jesus dude, dont attack the messenger. i dont know who the author is or what his sources are. i do know that if he was a professional writer it probably would be available online to be read for free. that being said, his book is very detailed, thorough and sourced throughout. i dont have any reason to doubt what he wrote.

i do have the beatles anthology book, and i am a big enough dork to go looking for the part about tomorrow never knows (page 210)

john had come up with the lyrics and the song, which was all in C - indian-style drone.

PAUL - "we needed a solo, and i was into tape loops at the time. i had two brennell machines and i could create tape loops with them. so i brought in a little plastic bag with about twenty tape loops, and we got machines from all the other studios, and with pencils and the aid of glasses got all the loops to run."

JOHN - "he (paul) made them at home on his tape, in whatever the key was, and we had six fellows with pencils holding them on, on six machines."

GEORGE MARTIN - "paul at that time was probably more avant-garde than the other boys. we always think of john as being the avant-garde one, with yoko and so on, but at that time paul was heavily into stockhausen and john cage and all the avant-garde artists, while john was living a comfortable suburban life in weybridge."

like i said, i always thought it was john too, but it just wasnt so.

Mew might be my personal album of the year.

Check out Ghostland Observatory if you like the Rapture. Great stuff. They had the best set in all of ACL, many music critics have said.

TV on the Radio, another ACL band, I've been listening to.

    Some others:

Pete Yorn- new album Nightcrawler is decent. Nothing can beat his debut.

Heavens- this is Matt Skiba (of Alkaline Trio) side project. I really like his voice.

Keane- album Under the Iron Sea- Has outdone their debut album. Outstanding work.

I made a mix CD for my truck with 175 rap and country MP3s on it. I might have the only CD in existence that has Ice Cube, Dr. Dre, Johnny Cash, and George Strait on it...
