Bonnaroo in my back yard this June - can't wait to see Radiohead, RHCP, Phish, The Joy Formidable, Bon Iver, The Antlers, Feist, The Shins, Foster the People, St. Vincent, Battles, Mogwai, SBTRKT, and many others. Also will probably go see Fiona Apple in Nashville on July 13.
Caught the wheeler brothers a couple of weeks ago and papa grows funk last weekend. Last night caught a friends funk band open for a really good grateful dead cover band and today is isbell, jj grey/mofro and galactic at ifest. North Mississippi allstars at atones next weekend. Need to catch some good indie shows.
I'll be there. Have seats. Wish I could have gotten pit tickets, Arctic Monkeys are one of those bands I wanna be in a pit for. Super excited that they are doing 15-16 songs a night on this tour. Seen them once, haven't seen the Keys yet. I hope they are good, I kinda made myself tired of them though, listened to them way too much, so right now im more excited for the Monkeys ive been waiting for these guys to come back to Houston. They blew me away opening for Arcade Fire, I didn't think they'd be near that good. agreed
4/27 Freddie Gibbs @Red7 5/08 Soulfly @ Emos 5/17 Dead Prez @ Red7 5/19 Phonte and 9th Wonder @ND Studios 5/25 Scarface @ The Mansion I think this sprinkled in with a ton of great comedians coming to Cap City should be a decent month leading up to Free Press and Mayhem Fest.
heh, Explosions in the Sky just announced a Houston show on June 17th, two days after I made that post. I'll be at that show Also Black Keys/Arctic Monkeys last night was great, better than I thought it'd be. Both bands were great. I had grown a bit tired of the Keys leading up to it, but that show has me interested in them again. And I'll never miss the Arctic Monkeys if they come anywhere near Houston (that was my second time to see them, saw them back in August at the House of Blues) Next show is M83 on May 17th, and then Free Press Summer Fest
Nick Lowe at the Continental Club...Monday May 7th ...and...the H-Town Jukes at Central Market, this Sunday April 29th.
Saw Arctic Monkeys and The Black Keys last night. I was not remotely impressed with Arctic Monkeys. The Black Keys were fantastic though. They were the first band I ever saw at ACL (2005). Next up, Nocturnal Fest on Saturday.
I liked the Arctic Monkeys, but I feel like they are much better to see in a small, dark, crowded place rather than a big seated ampitheater (like where I saw them the other night) or big arena. Had a lot more fun with them at the House of Blues Houston show last August than them opening for the Black Keys.
I agree. Their sound is more suited for a smaller venue, HOB size. I was impressed by their energy, they've been touring straight for a little over a year
They played a few times at Warehoue Live many years ago (like around 2005-2006). Did you catch them then? They were really good. Venue is not too big. I've enjoyed every one of their albums, except the most recent one.
