I have mixed feelings about the Of Montreal show. It was a weird night. Got there right when Janelle Monae went on and Number's was PACKED. Probably the most crowded I have ever seen it in the 15 years I've been going there. She put on a high energy show and the crowd was really into it. Given the state of things, I expected it to be insane by the time Of Montreal went up there. But that's when it got weird. I have seen OM several times before and they didn't start out with near the energy I'm accustomed to. The sound at Number's was pretty awful, so I think that contributed to the lower energy. For some songs I felt like they were just going through the motions, but then there were a couple where just went crazy and it was the kind of show I expected. It was a really up and down performance and for the majority of the night the crowd did not respond. By the time Of Montreal had played for an hour, at least a third of the crowd had left and it wasn't crowded at all. But then towards the end things picked up and they came out to do an encore. I heard the opening riff to "The Past is a Grotesque Animal," which is without a doubt my favorite song of theirs and one I had never heard live. They absolutely KILLED this song and made up for any poor effort that they had put forward earlier in the night. The crowd was really into it at this point and everyone was just jumping around and smiling from ear to ear. I wish the entire night could have been like this, but it was a great experience none the less.
Added to my Fun Fun Fun Fest schedule: Power Trip Invicvible - this chick can spit some rhymes The League Of Extraordinary Gz (Austin hip-hop collective. hoping to catch a Southbound performance) <object width="400" height="225"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7194003&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7194003&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=1&color=&fullscreen=1&autoplay=0&loop=0" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="225"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/7194003">That Ain't Right Music Video</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/luxurymindz">LUXURY MINDZ</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p> Kaki King - definitely not what I'd normally listen to, but I dig this chick
I dig her albums a lot. Not sure how it's going to come across in an outdoor setting, though. We'll see.
Tonite it's going down at Rudz only two bands on the bill now, come early to catch Thunderbolt Suit who do a nails cover of the Rocker by Thin Lizzy. And then Inner Lights playing our own brand of space, travel and rock n roll. Likely going on around 11:30-ish.
The Antlers last night put on a great show. Totally worth the trip. My only complaint is that the crowd was full of stupid chicks that seemed more interested in talking to their friends about bs instead of listening to music. So freaking annoying. It's probably the worst crowd I've ever been a part of. Why do people pay to go to shows if all they're going to do is talk?
Best Coast and Sonny & the Sunsets at Fitzgerald's was a pretty good show... I caught a little bit of Polvo downstairs too.
Kaki King is a pretty unique guitar player, I have "Legs to make us longer" and it is a really good album if you like acoustic guitar. There are a few really unique tracks on the album.
I just heard Iron and Wine is here today at Fitz and sold out! They're selling for $80+ on craigslist
Pegstar just posted this on their FB feed: "Limited Iron and Wine tickets available at Fitzgerald's box office NOW! $25 cash only First come First serve."
WATAIN AT EMOS ON WEDNESDAY!!! sweedish black metal - saw these guys a couple years ago and it was possibly the most evil show i have ever seen - not only does the music kick ass, they even had dead animals impaled on stage. the entire room stunk like rotten meat...it was awesome! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kvdYtW9DUwY?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kvdYtW9DUwY?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>
