I wouldn't feel that bad. The National usually puts on a lousy live show b/c it is near impossible for lead singer Matt Berninger to recreate the vocals from their studio albums. I've seen them live 3 times, and I kept telling myself it would get better on the next show, but it never has. The live shows of The National always feels like it is missing something. That being said, I adore all three of their albums, and the new one is one of the year's best. Have fun at LCD. Did you know their video for the single "Home" was filmed in Houston? <iframe src="http://player.vimeo.com/video/15163137" width="400" height="200" frameborder="0"></iframe><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/15163137">LCD Soundsystem "Home"</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/user4363289">FUNWUNCE</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p>
They have 5 albums, and Matt was on point last night. Infinitely better than the last time I saw them.
The National was great last night. I really like how they closed the show with an unplugged version of Vanderlyle Crybaby Geeks with Owen Pallet.
I've seen Ariel Pink twice in Houston; he's great. First show for Joanna in town since opening for Vetiver and Devendra at the Orange Show like six years ago. I'm psyched (check the sig). Louis CK, too--be my friend?
Thursday night I went to the Vampire Weekend show. Beach House was good but it took a few songs for me to really get into them (I've only listened to Teen Dream, which is good, but seems to be overrated, people have called it one of the best of this year but i think its about middle of the line for this year). Vampire Weekend was great from the start though. They sounded good and were a lot of fun. There was maybe a few songs that were a bit boring, but for the most part, ton of fun and sounded great. It did seem over pretty fast with them, though I can't complain, they played almost every song from both albums (Albums are just short) and two openers+Beach house getting a good length set made up for it Then Friday night was LCD Soundsystem. This was the one I was really looking forward to. And holy crap was it good. We got there only like an hour and a half early yet me and my friend were 3rd and 4th and line, so we had dead center barrier. Sleigh Bells was the opener and they were great. Got us all in a mood to party. I wasn't sure how they'd be live but they were good. Really damn loud though. But that was fine. And then LCD was just amazing. Not a single song in the set I didnt like. I've never jumped and danced and moved at a concert like that before. It was just pure fun. I cant even explain in words how great it was. My concert going career has been short so far, but this is probably the best show ive been to. And when we got there, James Murphy was sitting right outside at the Hard Rock Cafe next door outside, having a drink with some other band members and crew. I got to talk to him when he was walking back towards the venue. Awesome
Sept was a good month....saw: Rush Porcupine Tree Vampire Weekend They Might Be Giants Last Tuesday I saw Roger Waters perform The Wall at MSG. This Monday I'm seeing Broken Bells.
LCD was pretty badass last night. Third time I've seen them and last night's show was easily the best. Jumping around the entire time just going crazy and having a good time. I'm sore all over from dancing so much, but it was totally worth it. James Murphy is the coolest dude alive. The only bad thing about the show was the crowd, or the lack thereof. Those that were there were into it, but there just was not nearly as many people as I expected. Someone said that they had only sold 800 of the 3,500 tickets. Hard to believe and made me sad as it just reinforced how this is just not a very good place to live if you're a big live music fan. No wonder a lot of great artists pass Houston by. Edit: Just realized Astrosfan183 that you're the one that had that statistic on the Coachella boards.
Anybody see the Foals last night? Good gracious that was a righteous set of monster hooks and unbelievable math rock. I haven't had that much fun at a concert in quite a long time.
Yeah, one of the security guys told me the number. Its really lame that so few showed up But at least the show was a ton of fun. And it made it easier to get a good spot. And getting to meet James was just awesome. He is definitely an awesome guy
I've gotten to know Thomas Meluch over the recent years (Benoit Pioulard). He is a great musician and a really swell guy. If you get a chance to meet him, make sure to wish him a congratulations on his newly married life. His new album isn't as good as his previous two, but it is still way above par. Did you attend his show on May 10, at Mango's, by any chance?
I don't think that's the case. You have to bear in mind that this weekend was a very busy one for music. Devandra Barnhart Foals The National All those shows were on Friday night. Also, the fact the show got very little promotion didn't help, either.
no. probably not going to see him this time either. I dont like folk indie. I just figured some of the hipsters here would want to see him.
