I wasn't too familiar with Friendly Fires till you mentioned them. But I've been listening to their tracks on Youtube and its really pretty great stuff. Its like a mix of Calvin Harris, Foals and Klaxons. I'll definitely be getting this album.

lots of Incubus lately because my kids like it so much

lots of jazz elsewhere; particularly at the office. my 9 year old took hell at school the other day from his friends for telling his music teacher he liked jazz music and coltrane in particular.

Eh, leave it to kids to not know what is great. I surely didn't know anything about jazz and Coltrane when I was 9 so I probably would have joined in on the teasing. But like you, I will have my son familiar with Coltrane and Miles Davis and many other jazz artists by the time he's 9.

Outstanding Max. He's going to have a great ear for detail and a wonderful appreciation for music in general. Good job. :)

^ dave grohl continues to suck.

was looking forward to this album because of the members of queens of stonage, but Jesus himself couldn't offset grohls suckitude.

    basso,

I was with a friend earlier, and she played this.....

    <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/4VRupPENjnw&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/4VRupPENjnw&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>

I wonder if you know of anything similar.....I'm not familiar with opera, but for a female soprano.....Natasha Marsh is lush. I'd love a recommendation. Thanks.

The new Dogg Pound single with Krazyie Bone sounds like a throwback joint from the 90s when they were at the top of their game:

    <param name="quality" value="high" /> <embed src="http://www.dubcnn.com/swf/mp3playerDub.swf?id=2009/november/tha_dogg_pound_ft_krayzie_bone-money_foldn_dirty-(dubcnn).mp3&artwork=doggpound-player.jpg&auto=1" quality="high" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="323" height="180"></embed>

Hook gets repetitive a bit, but its a nice chill song! We need more of this and less of the "swagger" rap!

the piece is by eric satie, but was written for orchestra, Trois Gymnopiedes; this is a vocalization of the original, but pretty cool.

opera is such a broad subject, so many different styles, but two fine examples of the "lush soprano" genre, both from file, are the aria from La Wally, sung by Wilhemena Fernandez in the movie Diva:

    <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/2hsmoo97CVA&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/2hsmoo97CVA&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>

and Beim Schlafengehen, from Richard Strauss' Four Last Songs, which was featured in The Year of Living Dangerously:

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/b2rps_3n92k&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/b2rps_3n92k&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

    sung by Kiri Te Kanawa.

the new songs on the FF greatest hits album are weak, but what do you not like about TCV?

to me, it has more of a QOTSA sound than a dave grohl sound.
