"No I in Threesome" It's just about the only song I really liked off of Our Love to Admire and may be the best thing they've ever done IMHO. And I loved pretty much all of their first two albums.
repped - nah, I haven't heard of Julian Plenti (and I wonder if I really need any more bands/artists to check out, lol). That song would have definitely made "Our Love to Admire" a little bit stronger of an album although I agree with DC that "No I in Threesome" is absolutely a killer song. Hell, it may just be my favorite song by them - just barely beating out "Evil" and "NYC". I know yesterday that I said otherwise but today is a new day.
Yes, Interpol. Finally a bbs "it" band that I've actually heard of! Well, to be fair, I do love some Arcade Fire as well. So that's 2. Anyhoo.... Living Colour - Vivid

In Ribbons - Pale Saints The Complex - Blue Man Group Safe as Milk - Captain Beefheart Second Edition - Public Image Limited God in Three Persons - The Residents Free Jazz - Ornette Coleman
Have been meaning to ask about your thoughts on Captain Beefheart. I dont have any albums and cant recall listening to any.
awesome album - as far as shoegazer music goes, this is one that never seemed to get the attention it deserved. not into their other stuff so much (after the bassist/singer quit), but this one album is a great listen from beginning to end. they were better musicians than most from that movement and had really interesting dynamics in their songs.
Manchester Orchestra Shake It Out - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=26ft-9K-k_Y Embedding disabled by request heard this on the radio in austin. 101.5 in austin > rock stations in dallas or houston.

Beefheart is a very tough and challenging listen but ultimately a rewarding one. There really is no one quite like him so it is hard to compare but if you like Frank Zappa, Tom Waits, and Ornette Coleman, you will probably like him. Heavily influenced by blues (primarily by Howlin Wolf who he sounded like) but by free jazz as well, Beefheart's stew is one that is not for the faint of heart. "Safe as Milk" which is the debut is a great place to start because it is not as "out there" as "Trout Mask Replica" (his most famous album). "Safe as Milk" is a blues album with some psychedelia thrown in and a couple of strange tracks as well. It also features a very young Ry Cooder in the Magic Band (the name that Beefheart gave his backing band). Start there and see what you think. Also, something else that helped me with him was getting a copy of the compilation album/anthology, "The Dust Blows Forward and the Dust Blows Back" (I believe that it's name). This is an excellent anthology that covers his entire career and gives you at least 1 song from each studio album. I do believe it is out of print, though. But I like him a lot as his music really grows on you, well at least it does with me. I am going to try to get all of his studio albums which should be a challenge considering that one of his best albums, "Lick My Decals Off, Baby" has been out of print for a long time and fetches high prices.
