I haven't listened to everything from Lake Street Dive, but they seem comfortable with what was called Blue Eyed Soul decades ago. Maybe they have covered something from performers such as Janis Joplin, Joan Jett etc and I missed it, but I have them doing Blues Rock and Hard Rock as taking Rachel (their singer) out of her comfort zone. Other than the Cover of Linger (Cranberries), the rest of the Covers that I posted should align with what your father listened to decades ago.
Just an FYI for those who may not be aware: The Police are the greatest band in the history of the world. No hyperbole. I much prefer the young and angry version heard in their first 3 albums. Ghost is good too and Synchronicity is okay but totally over exposed. My favorite version of my favorite song:
Not sure if I mentioned this before, but my younger son’s girlfriend bought him a “Ghost in the Machine” tshirt, and my esteem for her improved immensely. I love Ghost in the Machine. I remember being on vacation as a kid with it on cassette in my Walkman…and listening to it over and over and over again. Every Little Thing She Does is Magic shares space with Everybody Wants to Rule the World as 1 and 1a of my favorite songs of all time. Working on taking my younger son to see Sting in The Woodlands in October!
That intro to Linger was brutal. But I liked the rest of it. They’re definitely hit or miss for my taste. Her voice reminds me of Sara Barraelis (sp?) that smooth slightly deep, mellow voice. I’ve shared it here before but check out Beth Harts cover of Id Rather Go Blind With Joe Bonamossa. Preferably the Amsterdam version. Powerful stuff.
I will have to look around Youtube some more to see if Rachel has done more aggressive music than what I have seen her do so far. Thinking about it some more, I guess that Rachel could break out of the box that I have her in at the moment. Rachel Price to Beth Hart in the same post is a good sized jump.
FYI for those in Houston Sting: Live at the Olympia Paris ♥ 10:30 pm - 12:00 am Saturday 12th August Sting performs at the Olympia Paris in April 2017. OTA, it will be Houston Channel 8.1
Haha yah not the same voice but just another female vocalist I enjoy. Also, grace potter. She has done some stuff with Warren Haynes/Govt Mule. Also has a killer cover of Cortez the Killer with Willie Waldman and Joe Satch.
I was talking about the different styles/genres of music when having Rachel Price and Beth Hart in the same post. I have some Grace Potter on a To Do List and then ended up on a different path with Rachel and Lake Street Dive.
