Maliawian music is good stuff. You will love Toumani Diabaté then. He plays the kora and has toured the USA quite a bit in the past two years.

nice. like the mix of traditional and modern sounds there. he did some stuff w/ ali farka toure that is really good too. i got into african music about 10 years ago thru fela kuti (nigeria), then i heard a bunch of those ethiopiques compilations (70's ethiopian pop/jazz/funk), then i got this compilation of griot music - west african folk/storytelling songs - played w/ a kora, which is in that video you posted.

    - it was 3 totally different styles of music, so i got a nice broad intro to african music.

but that malawian stuff just continues to blow my mind - great individual players (guitarists, bassits, drummer, ect)

I've been listening to this. I can't decide whether I like it or not. Lyrics are NSFW.

I understand - I feel the same way with OK Computer and Kid A. OK is absolutely brilliant but not as easy listening to me as Kid A is. Something about Kid A connects with me that I just can't explain.

    Lazer Guided Melodies - Spiritualized
Laughing Stock - Talk Talk (absolutely beautiful album)
Playing With Fire - Spacemen 3
The Richard D James Album - Aphex Twin
Straight Between the Eyes - Rainbow (that is playing in my car right now)

Freak - I think you would absolutely love the Rainbow album; very accessible and melodious hard rock.

that is certainly the most catchy song on the album, for me I'm loving the whole album.... loving the folk rock comeback happen in the music world at the moment

also enjoying the new Avett Brothers (even though they really have smoothed things a little too much........ the Volcano Choir and Girl cds are also sounding sweet, as is the new Nick Cave and Warren Ellis compilation

I thought you were cleverly pointing out that this thread is forever a "never ending story"... Which is true lol
