Gave the new Gorillaz a full listen today on my jog. I think it’s definitely my favorite since maybe Plastic Beach. However it’s not perfect by any stretch, lacks a concept like Demon Days, Plastic, and Humanz (for all its flaws). I guess the concept is supposed to be being in a cult and the social media aspect of it in our modern world but it’s not obvious except for one or two songs. My other nit pick is I wish they wouldn’t have release half the album over the past 4 months. Songs like New Gold and Baby Queen would have hit hard hearing them right after each other for the first listen. I do have to say though, the fact that this song exists and it works is a monumental achievement. Hearing Stevie work so well in a modern synth pop ballad is something that should never work. I give this album 8 out of 10 when it really should be a 7.
A tribute to Ice Cube's cousin (he's still alive as far as I know...I just randomly heard Clint Eastwood today)
