Genesis - Selling England by the Pound Chicago - Chicago Transit Authority It's interesting to listen to these solo Phil Collins albums and then listen to a Genesis album (especially one with Peter Gabriel on lead vocals). I am one of the rare people that actually likes hard-core progressive Genesis but also likes the more radio friendly version that was a trio (Collins, Banks, and Rutherford). I do admit that after Phil's 3rd solo album, he sorta went crazy on horns, r&b, and pushed himself away from art rock/prog rock altogether but hey the guy has always admitted he loves Motown!
Arthur Brown's Kingdom Come - Journey Eloy - Time to Turn So the Arthur Brown album (yes the same Arthur Brown that had the song "Fire" in the late '60s that Prodigy later sampled) is the first album that actually used a drum machine!! This album came out in 1973 and it is an interesting album...you like spacy type music, you will enjoy this album.
I know I've posted this song more than once but every so often I gotta have the goosebumps this transcendent solo induces...
Utopia - Ra Jean-Luc Ponty - Mystical Adventures Two recent purchases that have turned out to be very good buys. I have always been familiar with Todd Rundgren with him producing Bat Out of Hell (working with Jim Steinman) and some of his albums including the power pop masterpiece, "Something/Anything?" but I wasn't all that familiar with his prog band, Utopia. I did get the first Utopia album awhile back and my feelings about it were meh. But this "Ra" album is pretty good and IMO a lot better than the self-titled album. As for the JLP album, he has a good lineup working with him but the star of the show, believe it or not, is Randy Jackson on bass - yes that Randy Jackson who is best known for being a judge on American Idol!
