    Hey dando,

Who is DL? I can't access youtube while I'm at work.

    Tago Mago - Can
Space Is the Place - Sun Ra
Paid in Full - Eric B & Rakim
    Adolescent Sex - Japan
Trout Mask Replica - Captain Beefheart

On Paid in Full, the title track may be the most sampled drum beat in history.

Lately, I've been listening to this comp I made called Songs.Of.Summer.Fenby [you can DL here http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/5053468 ]Here's the description - This compilation of current 'summer songs' & other eclectic offerings, paired with excerpts from Ken Russell's film, Song of Summer (1968), was inspired by Kate Bush's very modern 1980 song of almost the same name, 'Delius (Song Of Summer)', which of course was inspired by the film.

This updated telling of the story of English composer Frederick Delius, his wife and his amanuensis, Eric Fenby, focuses on the latter-Fenby.

Songs.Of.Summer[Fenby] includes songs from these artists; Bon Iver, Air France, Wax Tailor, Flying Lotus, Elbow, Sia, Hot Chip, Fantomas, Empire Of The Sun, Busdriver, PJ Harvey, Metric, Cut Copy, Friendly Fires, Lost Tribe, The Avalanches, Peter Gabriel, Interpol and The Knife.
Songs.Of.Summer[Fenby] is 98min, split into 'Four Sides', created in Peak and sent to iTunes w/AAC compression.

Yes, Def Leppard, the group of my youth (along with the Scorpions, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, and Quiet Riot- I hung out with that group in high school).

Been waiting for this concert for the last 6 months- Cheap Trick's music has been with me through the 70s, 80, 90s, and 00s- and they still put out great music- who else can say that except for a very small group of bands?

I mean, who can forget the Lips video as we used to call it?

    <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/ADWG6EXrbcE&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/ADWG6EXrbcE&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

And all apologies to you Hysteria fans, but High N Dry was Def Lep's best CD:

By the way, Trout Mask Replica- wow, that's a wild album. Takes some getting used to.

And I agree with the assessment on Pet Sounds- terrific music.

Yea, I'm in one of those experimental avant-garde phases as I have been listening and buying stuff by Beefheart, Can, Tom Waits, Sun Ra, The Residents, etc.

I have heard some far-out stuff like Aphex Twin, Interstellar Space by Coltrane, Penderecki (he's the composer of most of the music in "The Shining"), the music from 2001 (mainly by Ligeti), and Tago Mago by Can and none of that prepared me for "Trout Mask Replica". Of course, I knew what to expect going in but I pity those people who listen to it for the first time not knowing the background of it!

And although I was familiar with some of the songs because I have the anthology of the good Captain, I actually like the stuff from his last 3 albums - Bat Puller, Doc at the Radar Station, and Ice Cream for Crow. I'll have to pick those 3 up some day. There is still some weirdness but nowhere near as crazy as Trout Mask!

Hope you enjoy the concert! Post us a review of it after it is over.

Will do. The one I'm also pumped about is the Sgt. Pepper concert Cheap Trick's putting on in Las Vegas in September - got 2nd row for that- and let's put it this way, the last time I had seats that good was Springsteen's Tunnel of Love tour in the Summit back in 1987. Except for some of the club concerts in Houston like The Ramones, Replacements, The Call, Smithereens, etc. Not so lucky with the arena concerts- I was way back for Genesis- but that was one of the best concerts I've ever seen- it was the Genesis tour- the CD with Mama, That's All, etc. I think that's still my personal fave from Genesis, although Duke is very cool and sort of a concept album. If listening to Duke's Travels and Duke's End doesn't move you, I don't know what will.

Captain Beefheart- love the cover art, too!

Oh, I'm a huge fan of Kubrick- what makes The Shining and 2001 great films, for a large part, is the music- especially because there's a lot of scenes in both without dialogue. "All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy."

hmmm. I'm definitley going to disagree. I am a huge audiophile so I'll give nearly anything a sincere listen. Having said that, Animal Collective is very unimpressive considering the hype they've been given.

they are extremely lyrically challenged, the vocals sound like a train wreck, and while I can appreciate syncopation as much as the next guy, some of their tunes appear to be just flat out off beat. And yet that's not even the toughest part of Animal Collective's "artistry" to digest. Can someone please tell these guys to kill the repetive loops?

I admire the 80's power-pop feel that they are going after......but, their last album is amorphous.

my worthless opinion of course. :p
