Yes, it is great! The song "Dear God" may be one of the most deep, thought-provoking songs I have ever heard. I actually remember hearing it from when I was in elementary school, but had no idea it was XTC until I listend to the album yesterday. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/hk41Gbjljfo&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/hk41Gbjljfo&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

Funny thing about "Dear God" - it originally was not supposed to be on the album as it was the B-side to the single, "Grass" which is on the album (and a great song in its own right). However, DJs picked up on the B-side while playing "Grass" and the song became so popular that Geffen replaced "Mermaid Smiled" on the album with "Dear God". XTC has often been called one of the most perfect pop groups that the world has forgotten about. I would love to have every one of their albums.
My favorite: XTC's The Mayor of Simpleton: Never been near a university, Never took a paper or a learned degree, And some of your friends think thats stupid of me, But its nothing that I care about. Well I dont know how to tell the weight of the sun, And of mathematics well I want none, And I may be the mayor of simpleton, But I know one thing, And thats I love you. When their logic grows cold and all thinking gets done, Youll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton. I cant have been there when brains were handed round (please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton), Or get past the cover of your books profound, (please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton), And some of your friends thinks its really unsound, That youre ever seen talking to me. Well I dont know how to write a big hit song, And all crossword puzzles well I just shun, And I may be the mayor of simpleton, But I know one thing, And thats I love you. Im not proud of the fact that I never learned much, Just feel I should say, What you get is all real, I cant put on an act, It takes brains to do that anyway. (and anyway...) And I cant unravel riddles, problems and puns, How the home computer has me on the run, And I may be the mayor of simpleton, But I know one thing, And thats I love you (I love you). If depth of feeling is a currency, (please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton), Then Im the man who grew the money tree, (no chain of office and no hope of getting one). Some of your friends are too brainy to see, That theyre paupers and thats how theyll stay. Well I dont know how many pounds make up a ton, Of all the nobel prizes that Ive never won, And I may be the mayor of simpleton, But I know one thing, And thats I love you. When all logic grows cold and all thinking gets done, Youll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton. Youll be warm in the arms of the mayor of simpleton. Youll be warm in the arms of the mayor. (please be upstanding for the mayor of simpleton.)

I DO have all of their albums. Even the Dukes of Stratosphear one (Chips from the Chocolate Fireball) when they went all psychadelic. I started a thread a couple years back - think it was called "XTC - a poor mans Beatles" or something like that. I love those guys. And still hold out hope that Colin and Andy will patch things up, find a 3rd memeber even, and record more music ...but from all that I hear it looks like Colin is done with music. Sad.
Cool - I was lucky enough to get a lot of music which I added to my hard drive and XTC was one of the first groups I sought out - sadly all that was there was "Skylarking" (which I already have) and "Drums and Wires". I am going to buy "Oranges and Lemons" next.
All kinds of stuff that I recently added to the hard drive: "Intimacy" - Bloc Party "Chaos A.D." - Sepultura "Reign in Blood" - Slayer "Mutter" - Rammstein "Ace of Spades" - Motorhead "Danzig" - Danzig "Number of the Beast" - Iron Maiden "Aenima" - Tool "Twitch" - Ministry "Mechanical Animals" - Marilyn Manson "Bloody Kisses" - Type O Negative
Saw Dirty Projectors in Austin Wednesday night. They played all of 'Bitte Orca' (for the exception of 'the Bride'), some off of 'Rise Above', and a song off of the New Attitude EP. Amazing.
Nice! Now Playing: Soilent Green - Inevitable Collapse In The Presence of Conviction Superjoint Ritual - A Lethal Dose Of American Hatred Down - NOLA Pantera - Vulgar Display Of Power
Thanks - I forgot to mention that I also plan on listening to Gwar's "America Must Be Destroyed" sometime in the next day or so.
