I agree. Did not care for the record. Wife is a huge fan of the band. She was a bit disappointed too.

Devin Townsend Project lately. An acquired taste that took me a while but I think I'm there.

    I like
    • Ocean Machine - Biomech
    • Devin Townsend Project - Transcendence
    Devin Townsend is a musician's musician, like King's X.

Yeah Transcendence is what I've been listening to since it's his only free stuff on Amazon Prime.

I saw DTP opening for someone (Gojira maybe?) a while ago and even though at the time I didn't know any of their songs, their set was still amazing. Townsend is a great performer and really got the crowd going. I was surprised at how much I enjoyed them.

I think I did have a Social Distortion album back in high school, but I can't remember ever loving it. I must have sold it back in college when I converted to indie rock hipster. Not sure if that was an oversight on my part, or I just wasn't into them for some other reason. I think I always just put them on the same level as other "Vans Warped Tour" punk bands like NOFX that didn't interest me.

But I heard "Ball and Chain" randomly the other day, and damned if it isn't good. One of those songs anyone can like. So, I did some research and quickly figured out they actually were more catchy/hook driven than just poor man's Offspring wanna-bes (and started way before Offspring anyway). Pretty unique too with incorporating some country/rockabilly into harder punk rock. Anyway, I bought a used copy of their self-titled CD and it's pretty darned good. So yeah, that's what I'm listening to. The 90s are still finding ways to impress me.
