If you want an idea of how they played live, The Doors gives it. It's nice when an LP captures something of the quality that so many of these groups put out on the stage. Usually, they have a real studio quality that may be great, but leaves one wondering what a live performance was like. The Doors first LP captures it nicely. Well, you can't see the bulge in Jim's leather pants, but the sound is dead on. Man, the chicks just freaked out over the guy! I always maneuvered my way to the first few rows at a concert, if I didn't have great tickets (yes, I was one of those people! It wasn't that hard and everyone ended up in a crowd at the front on their feet if the group was rockin', anyway.) The percentage of lovely, groovy ladies in the crowd, especially when someone like Morrison was the front man, boggled the mind. And the bra was not in fashion.
dando, Thanks for the post - that is what I was looking for. I think you would like Hodgson's solo stuff because what I have read so far, it is very Supertramp sounding like (which makes sense) but more like "Crime of the Century" than "Breakfast in America". I'll let you know what I think after I listen to it a couple of times. Deckard, I hear ya on the chicks flipping out over Jim Morrison - my sister still does to this day and he died when she was an infant!
"Crime of the Century" - Supertramp "Astra" - Asia "Selling England by the Pound" - Genesis "Breakfast in America" - Supertramp "The Essential Toto" - Toto "In the Eye of the Storm" - Roger Hodgson Haven't gotten around to but will soon: "Face Value" - Phil Collins "Brain Salad Surgery" - ELP "Genesis" - Genesis "Discipline" - King Crimson "Close to the Edge" - Yes dando, It is funny that you mentioned song #3 off "Crime" as being the song I should listen to the most. I honestly forgot that you told me that and that song has been my favorite song by far off both albums. I am absolutely kicking myself for not being able to get into this group sooner! Right now, I think "Crime of the Century" is the better album but "Breakfast in America" is very solid, too.

^off that now. <great stuff. got lucinda williams going now, i'm in a down home kinda mood. as much as i love indie rock for it's energy and devil-may-care attitude, most of it lacks the gravitas of either aforementioned williams. damn, lucinda can bring it.
Have you seen her live? She is coming to Auckland in a few weeks and I am debating going to her show.
I love that album Yesterday, a coworker turned me on to an old Houston psychedelic band called Fever Tree. Its good stuff. He said they had the biggest fanbase back then despite great bands like The Moving Sidewalks, The 13th Floor Elevators, Loose Ends, etc. http://cousin-mike.blogspot.com/2009/03/fever-tree-san-franciscan-girls-1968.html
