Uncool to bring Elliot Smith and the Dirty projectors into this - I tried to rep ya but can't <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/qtXtgHGrL9E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Oooooh art-rock debate. Dirty Projectors vs Grizzly Bear is a great indie deba. Grizzly Bear has a measured tone to it, it is Baroque in a way that doesn't give you a demanding bass line, or a strong guitar pay off. I think the drum-work is quite minimalist at times, but it does sound like foreground, and it does demand a certain ear. I never really listen specifically to drums in most songs because I'm a guitarist, so I pay most attention to guitar by nature, then lyrics or vox secondary. I must disagree in that I find there is genuine emotion in the tone of Drost's voice, there is more than the mechanized "reverby" echo. The lyrics are also measured, the restraint kind of a harmonious little lament of an oversensitive man. Yeah, the distinct "Beatles / Beach Boys" type of all band members vocalizing has been overdone, but it still has value when used correctly. Even the whole "sound like we're recording in a Cathedral" sound has been beaten to death, it is still effective in some formats if done right, Wu Lyf (Who I'm not really a big fan of, but understand why people like them) use it in their style, which is more punkish with a lot of rock-out rhythms. I think it certainly is a kind of music that isn't for everyone, and I don't mean that in a snobby sort of way, if you don't dig it and think its sucks, thats cool man. I'm not gonna get my black-rimmed Ray Bans in a twist over it. TEHO!

hi moes, i wasn't calling you a homo or anything, but seriously, this is a discussion more than a debate. i don't think anybody who likes grizzly is a pretentious sheep ****er or anything like that. what's important is to keep this conversation deadly serious lest people dare to doubt our earnest love for music. and to let you know what an earnest, pretentious, sheep****ing, homosexual i am, i'll have you know that i shook hands with the moz while i saw the queen is dead tour at cullen auditorium, front row and center. c*m@ME BRAH.
Righteous bro, I dig that ****. You're a deep cat, and I enjoy your musings. Keep posting. No sarcasm. Real talk as the blacks say.
Because it is gary I will challenge the Smiths ever being at Hofheinz... Are you sure you do not mean Cullen at Rice? Hofheinz stopped having concerts in the Uriah Heep days.
thanks moes. mostly i entertain myself by dropping bits of wisdom mixed with heaps of insults while taking a piss. but sometimes i have to be very serious. there is a question i've been hesitant to ask you for a long time. can you get me a good deal on a lazy-boy, puhlease?

Sorry, any publication that places Bon Iver as their top album of 2011 is delusional. Besides, reading their reviews is almost comical. Also, Grizzly Bear is mediocre, not bad. Yellow House was decent. Haven't listened to the new one, in fairness. But by all means, continue to dismiss me as an "Epic fail" without knowing my musical tastes.
i just gathered up all the beefheart, pere ubu, sigur ros, animal collective, and everything i own that manny's mentioned in this thread and burned the albums, sledge hammered the cds, and sent the digital files via FTP to this guy in jersey who is a giant doosh. then i deleted the files.
