Tom Waits - Closing Time Gong - 2032 Was also listening to almost all of Black Uhuru's "Dub Factor" which might be my favorite dub album of all-time (which is really saying something!).
Ja Rule--"Pray for the Day" "Real Life Fantasy" (Love the Queen sample) and "Parachute" Don't hate, but I really dig his new album, and the honesty. I love that he produced it during his struggles over the last few years and on his way to jail. I've been a loyal fan though...can't deny the voice. He's the first guy to master the Hip Pop genre of rap when it was changing. He was criticized for it, but every successful rapper uses his original formula. Lyrically, when he doesn't care about money, he's better than most. He's no Nas, but he's a class above the trash I hear now. VVV was classic and he's an instant hitmaker. I can't say that about many mainstream artists anymore. Forget Drake, Big Sean and the other softies. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/zshoM2dMKmE" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/2bSVjgn0vJU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="420" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/G16NFIBrMXo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Seeing Radiohead in Dallas this coming Monday, so it's basically the Great 8: Pablo Honey (yes, this is great) The Bends OK Computer Kid A Amnesiac Hail To The Thief In Rainbows King of Limbs A few observations: 1. They truly do get better with each listening. 2. In Rainbows is close to the best thing they've ever done. 3. OK Computer- truly a landmark, to this day. 4. Hail to the Thief- should have been 12 songs- I'm from the old school that doesn't need to have 70-minute CDs like American Idiot- sometimes, less is more. 5. Amnesiac, to me, is just as good as Kid A 6. Pablo Honey is great, just great. The first three alone are worth the price of the CD. 7. Their musicianship- the fluidity of the music- is something else. 8. I don't understand some of the lyrics, but they're at least interesting. 9. OK, Yorke tends to use a bit more falsetto than I'm used to- but I think it fits their type of music. I don't think a screamer would work with Radiohead's music. 10. Out of my top 10 favorite groups, of which they are one, they are the only one for whom I don't know or remember all the band member's names. I guess that's good in that it's much more about the collective whole than the individual personalities.
