English, so not European. I'm far from a metal expert, though I know Dimmu Borgir should be on your to-hear list. I guess I can't go African with you, so get some Dan Reeder: Food and p***y, Work Song, Clean Elvis, and I Drink Beer. Probably a style you don't pursue. Music should be fun.
It definitely should. Thanks for your tips. I've been trying to expand my musical palette. And yea Dimmu is amazing as well as Children of Bodom
For those who like new indie music, here’s a good one for you. Manny, this is one you might like. Ghostkeeper http://radio3.cbc.ca/play/band/Ghostkeeper/Mr-No-Show/ The guy is a Metis from a small community in northern Alberta, but his music is a surprising and very interesting blend of a lot of influences. http://jam.canoe.ca/Music/Artists/G/Ghostkeeper/2008/04/18/5319721-sun.html
Grizzled, Thanks - it sounds interesting but I can't get to it from work as that site is blocked. I might try to check it out this Friday when I'm off from work and have a computer to log onto. Right now, I am listening to a playlist on the iPod that I created for The Cult with 25 songs ranging from the albums "Love" through "Beyond Good and Evil" (nothing from "Dreamtime" or the last one that came out). Also, listened to earlier today my Coldplay playlist (20 songs over 4 albums). As for actual CDs, been on a Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye kick: Original Musiquarium I (double album) - Stevie Wonder Songs in the Key of Life (double album) - Stevie Wonder Where I'm Coming From - Stevie Wonder The Very Best Of (double album) - Marvin Gaye M.P.G. - Marvin Gaye That's the Way Love Is - Marvin Gaye I Want You - Marvin Gaye
Listened to the following since last night: Little Feat - Dixie Chicken My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges I'm going to try to listen to some DMB on the way home, but I'm not sure I'll be able to get through it.
Zero 7 - Polaris. Found 'em via my yoga class I take. Apparently everyone on youtube recommends smoking weed to them so they must be good
Bruce Springsteen- Born to Run Marvin Gaye- What's Going On Van Morrison- Astral Weeks U2- Achtung Baby REM- Murmur Bruce Springsteen- The E Street Shuffle The Who- The Who By Numbers The Clash- London Calling Prince- Purple Rain Derek & The Dominoes- Layla Nothing better than those 10, IMVHO
I have all 10 of those albums! Midnight Love - Marvin Gaye In Square Circle - Stevie Wonder Sam's Town - The Killers Viva La Vida - Coldplay
So now I'm in the 2nd Top 10 of all time: 11. Bob Dylan- Highway 61 Revisited 12. Soundtrack- The Harder They Come 13. The Rolling Stones- Exile on Main Street 14. The Beatles- The White Album (with apologies to Rubber Soul) 15. Sly Stone- There's a Riot Going On 16. Genesis- Duke 17. Rush- Power Windows (yes, I know Rush purists will yell Sacrilege! How could you put this above 2112, Fly By Night, or Moving Pictures? Don't know, just something about the songs on this one. Very underrated). 18. The O Jays- Backstabbers 19. Radiohead- OK Computer 20. Miles Davis- Sketches of Spain Honorable Mention-any random album from The Kinks, Cheap Trick (except for The Doctor), Screaming Blue Messiahs, Ratt, The Smithereens, Buddy Holly, Earth Wind and Fire, Brooks and Dunn, Mussorgsky, or The Pretenders. It's just a cornucopia music weekend!!!
After 31 years of listening to probably 100,000+ CDs, cassette tapes, albums, and even 8-tracks, those are the 10 best ever- and I'm sticking to my story! BTW, I can't believe they actually created 8 tracks. Anyone remember how 8 tracks used to work? They would cut songs off in the middle in between songs and then start up again on the next track- the one I remember buying like that was Hotel California, I think, and so for Life in the Fast Lane it was like: Life in the fast lane, (quiter) surely make (quieter) you lose (quieter) your (dead silence)... Then you have several seconds of silence, with the song slowly fading back to normal volume. Horrible idea! I can understand silence between songs, but in the middle?? Worst invention ever. Someone needs to start a thread.
