Some older stuff that I'm just now catching up with, and some stuff that kind of fits in. Sonic Youth - Rather Ripped Edward Sharpe and The Magnetic Zeros - Up From Below Black Lips - Los Valientes Del Mondo Nuevo Black Lips - Let it Bloom Black Lips - Good Bad Not Evil Black Lips - We Did Not Know the Forest Spirit Made The Flowers Grow Les Breastfeeders - Les Matins Grands Soirs
My oldest son turned me on to this band and I thought they were very good. Very Jefferson Ariplane-ish and eclectic.
I was surprised at how authentic their "classic" sound was. I was kind of impressed. I almost never listened to them because someone compared them to Polyphonic Spree, and I hate Polyphonic Spree as much as I can hate any band. I'm glad you like those guys as well.
its streaming on npr's website right now - http://www.npr.org/2011/02/06/133495228/first-listen-pj-harvey-let-england-shake

My theatre company has a show running now. I got Leo Aston of the Leo Trio just messing around on his guitar for the preshow. So I am hearing a lot of electric blues this week. I think I might even get to hear RMT tomorrow night!
This. Suck on it. <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="480" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/rSf2HGsYbdg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Just bought Diane Birch's album "Bible Belt" It's been on repeat all day. What an amazing musician she is.
Animal Collective - Merriweather Post Pavilion And just for Voodoo Pope, Radiohead - OK Computer And if I have time tonight, I might get to Wilco's "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot". Then I'll have dinner with several of the writers for Pitchfork and we will talk about how magnificent those 3 albums are among other things. The wife is okay with this as she knows there is nothing she can do to stop me from doing it!
This is a damn fine song by Gruff Rhys: <iframe title="YouTube video player" width="640" height="390" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/usGdERPWoPU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Built to Spill - Keep It Like A Secret Doesn't get enough credit for being one of the best guitar records ever. The hooks and general riffage on this album have always kicked my ass. A lot of good artists releasing stuff the past two weeks. By Saturday I should have: Cut Copy - Zonoscope Drive-by Truckers - Go-Go Boots PJ Harvey - Let England Shake Bright Eyes - The People's Key Smith Westerns - Dye It Blonde Asobi Seksu - Fluorescence Radiohead - The King of Limbs
I started backwards with The National, as I love High Violet and Alligator. Been meaning to give Boxer a listen for a while now. Today I listened to Bright Eyes - The People's Key all the way through. Some good tracks on there. Sounds closer to Conor's solo work as opposed to earlier Bright Eyes, which is a good thing in my opinion. Far more up-tempo than expected.
Asobi Seksu - Fluorescence PJ Harvey - Let England Shake Asobi's latest, IMO, is just as good or better than "Hush" after my first listen. Still doesn't quite compare to "Citrus" but it is doubtful they'll ever top that album. I will probably not get through the entire PJ album tonight (I'm only on the 5th track) but I like what I hear so far.
Asobi Seksu, Tapes 'n Tapes and Giver at the Lustre Pearl for SXSW. It was one of the better showcases last year. Will be attending. still on my rap bender. Mas Diabolic. this dude is crazy.
