wasnt the suburbs a #1 album? if that isnt mainstream i dont know what is. and they did snl too.

i think they are as big as they are going to get and i dont see them 'commercializing' their sound or jumping to a major label to appeal to a broader base. they are what they are.

My opinions are admittedly very rookified. By "not impressed", its to mean that they are good though I was short of being "blown away". For whatever reason I take to some brit styles and not others, it can be hit and miss. Probably a good band to see live

Listening to a mix of OK Computer and In Rainbows right now, as I assume Mr. and Mrs. Harrisment are doing.

    Good stuff.

10 second crossfade between "Subterranean Homesick Alien" and "Nude" is exceptional.

In a year with London Calling, The Wall, Armed Forces from Elvis Costello, Dream Police, Regatta de Blanc, Off The Wall, Fear of Music, Rust Never Sleeps, Breakfast in America, and Joe's Garage??? That is a bold statement. I really, really would like to like PIL, if John Lydon wasn't such an a**hole- he takes it to another level (although the Sex Pistols stuff is great- but that's mostly due to Steve Jones). Gang of Four rocks.

Ooh, that sounds like fun although I would rather do Kid A and In Rainbows than OK Computer.

Yes, that is my story and I am sticking to it, lol.

You need to find my thread on albums of the year since you have been alive - 1979 and 1991 were the 2 greatest years, IMO, on the quality of albums that were released. Here is my top 20 albums for 1979:

1 - Public Image Ltd. - Metal Box
    2 - Gang of Four - Entertainment!
    3 - Joy Division - Unknown Pleasures
    4 - Supertramp - Breakfast in America
5 - Van Morrison - Into the Music
    6 - Pink Floyd - The Wall
    7 - The Clash - London Calling
8 - Neil Young - Rust Never Sleeps
    9 - Wire - 154
10 - Michael Jackson - Off the Wall
    11 - Elvis Costello - Armed Forces
12 - Rickie Lee Jones - Rickie Lee Jones
    13 - The Cars - Candy-O
    14 - XTC - Drums and Wires
15 - The Police - Reggatta de Blanc
16 - Blondie - Eat to the Beat
    17 - Joe Jackson - Look Sharp!
18 - Gary Numan - The Pleasure Principle
    19 - AC/DC - Highway to Hell
20 - Talking Heads - Fear of Music
