lolwut... 0_o newp. I really don't care for Explosions In The Sky. really tried to get into them but, they bore me every time. And I'm too trendy for network tv. Ive never seen friday night lights. prolly first heard 'post-rock' in 2000-2001. I think it was GY!BE or Sigur Ros. not really sure, and I admit that I really didn't latch on until 2003 when I heard Mono's 'Hey You' EP. I really don't care for that EITS/Mono/Joy Wants Eternity/Sunlight Ascending twinkly sparkley crescendo sound I think you are trying to pin me to. I did at one point, but I like the more heavier, sprawling, almost drone side of it, like (newer) This Will Destroy You, The Calm Blue Sea, Locomotora, Russian Circles, Red Sparowes, and classical influenced post rock like Stubborn Tiny Lights, Riding Alone For Thousands of Miles, Gregor Samsa etc... and Tortoise sounds nothing like any of these artists mentioned, by your definition of Post-Rock, you'd probably consider Tim Hecker, Balmorhea, Max Richter, Belong, Boards of Canada, Maserati, Grouper all post rock too. Youre not much older than me. only a few years. and to get back on track.... I'm listening to Year of No Light.....(not a post-rock band, although they have no lyrics. ) <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8lVbJbrjNpw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8lVbJbrjNpw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
They need to come on and put something new out. Rumors are there is a box set of older tracks also in the works as well as a new material. Just give me more!!
cool man - its all in good fun. personally, id rather read more back and forths nit picking about music than just people coming in and listing whatever album they happen to be listening to and offering no commentary on it. im actually interested in what others have to say or think about the music they are listening to. but its time to put this dog down... first sentence in the article. this was from the article which you earlier posted... you arent challenging hipster-stalwart and indie-rock be-all-end-all pitchfork, are you?
Yes, a little commentary is great. I'm interested in these things as well, but the banter was becoming belittling and the gains were growing scarce from our grasp by the time I chimed in. Now that you both reel the attitude in a bit, I'm happier. I know that was the obvious concern, of course. Never listened to Tortoise, having a listen to the self titled release from 1994 now. So far very good... post-whatever.
yes it is..... "we are not a [expletive]ing post rock band." signed, Tortoise. o/\o no, I respect jo mamma. he just confused. I'm happy to skool young grasshoppa. anyway, glad you like tortoise. they did spawn a ton of influences...I hope you keep searching and find more great tunes. share too. you might find something I haven't heard of (but I doubt it!!--indrie cred +1) anyway...back on track... still loving the ish out of deftones new jernt... <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9yCfQ7lFGmw?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9yCfQ7lFGmw?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
what you just witnessed was the equivalent of two trekkies arguing about some mundane event from a random episode of star trek - but that doesnt mean at the end of the day they can wish each other to live long and prosper - i mean, we both came out of it repping each other (no homo). as for the argument itself, im happy to let others judge for themselves based on the evidence and testimony i have provided. i rest my case. as i said, their first 3 albums are excellent - especially their 3rd, tnt. these are my two favorite songs on that one. <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/JJdv2DGu-qc?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/JJdv2DGu-qc?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object> if you are a fan of bands w/ two drummers than you will enjoy this... <object width="480" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/cJiKoLCaags?fs=1&hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/cJiKoLCaags?fs=1&hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="480" height="385"></embed></object>
