What do you think about that album?? One of my all-time favorite albums. Still listening to the new Sigur Ros - track #7, "Ara Batur" is one of the most beautiful things I have ever heard.
Still trying to absorb it. It's not one that grabs me at first, but I think upon more listens in a short amount of time, I will really appreciate it. I'm gonna download some Jimi (since I'm reading a biography of him) and the new Fratelli's tonight.
Yea, Arthur Lee (the main force behind Love) was a somewhat eccentric genius. He was very much into psychedelic stuff but also at the same time wanting to add instruments that you would find in an orchestra (like trumpets, trombones, etc). I think that is why that album is so unique - it sounds like nothing else that had come out at that time. Actually, their first 2 albums before this one, "Love" and "Da Capo" are almost as good as "Forever Changes" but after "Forever Changes", pretty much everyone except Lee left and the band was never really the same although "Four Sail" is not considered a disaster album (I don't own that one but have thought about getting it numerous times). Yea, I think you are approaching it the right way - just keep listening to "Forever Changes" - it is a "grower" type of an album meaning it continues to get better and better after each listen. I know mc mark loves that album and IIRC, Deckard and Win do too.
Haha. Now if you would only buy one of my all-time favorites. This pick would probably change a week from now but as of today, the pick is "Screamadelica" by Primal Scream. Perfect fusion of rock with dance. Also can't go wrong with the Stone Roses self-titled debut.

The new Hold Steady - Stay Positive is pretty dang good. I have a little bit of a hard time not picturing Springsteen doing the vocals but their sound varies from E Street a lot. The new Old's 97 sucks but the new Reckless Kelly is pretty good. Go Figure. I've got the new Peter Gabriel world music project Big Blue Ball but haven't made it through it yet.
"Oh, the snot has caked across my hands, it has turned into crystal.." Best (or at least, most visual) first line of a song or what?
The all dead list: Frank Zappa "Make a Jazz Noise Here" John Lennon "Plastic Ono Band" Jimi Hendrix "Electric Ladyland" The Doors "Morrison Hotel" Peter Tosh "Bush Doctor" Jerry Garcia "Garcia"
Alejandro Escovedo - Real Animal Jimi Hendrix - Band of Gypsys Rush - Permanent Waves My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges Coldplay - Viva La Vida John Mayer - Where the Light Is: Live in Los Angeles Beck's new one comes out tomorrow. Probably my second most anticipated release of the year (assuming DMB finally releases another one, which may not happen now due to the injury to Leroi Moore).
