Oh yea. I was just listing what I was listening to at the time of the post. If I was to rank the top albums of this year I would go: 1) Beach House- Teen Dream 2) Spencer Krug Moonface EP 3) Local Natives- Gorilla Manor 4) Yeasayer- Odd Blood 5) Wolf Parade- Expo 86 6) Caribou- Swim 7) The National- High Violet Foals- Total Life Forever Band Of Horses- Infinite Dream Surfer Blood- AstroCoast Born Ruffians- Say It Nas and Damian Marley- Distant Relatives Ratatat- LP4 Hot Chip- One Life Stand Deer Tick- Black Dirt Sessions I just got the new Menomena album. Need to listen to that. I have't spent too much time listening to the new Liars or Jonsi. Was disappointed immensely with the new MGMT album though. Also with new Midlake album as well. Still need to listen to new albums from Tallest Man on Earth. Heard rave reviews about this album. Didn't bother with the new Vampire Weekend though. Never been a fan. Haven't listened to Gorillaz much either. Need to get the new Keane album as well. I have a theory as to why we are seeing so many releases from these bigger bands. I think they want to be included on the new decades best list, so thus they delayed their album to 2010, when many of them were actually completed prior to the new decade. I've been hearing new Interpol and new Strokes album is about ready as well. Also new Royksopp album called Senior, which returns to their darker sounding roots. But regardless, I've been in heaven this year with all this new music. Almost too much music and too little time to hear it all.
Ooh, new Interpol - I can't wait for that one. How is the new Foals album, better than the debut? I wonder when Battles is going to release their next album.
Interpol released a single called Lights recently, which is from their new album. It's free for download from their website. They have been interviewed as saying they are bringing back the sounds from Turn on the Bright Lights. So this should be good. But the big news is that Carlos D left the band which they announced about 2 weeks ago. Foals album is pretty good. Not as math rocky/fine guitar work as their first album, but they have an evolved sound, which is still pretty good. Battles are scheduled to release an album later this year.
Definitely not as math rock, but I've been enjoying it. How do you feel about Free Energy? I can't get that album off of my train playlist. <object width="400" height="220"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7069186&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=7069186&server=vimeo.com&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=&fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="400" height="220"></embed></object><p><a href="http://vimeo.com/7069186">"Free Energy"</a> from <a href="http://vimeo.com/freeenergymusic">Free Energy</a> on <a href="http://vimeo.com">Vimeo</a>.</p> Fruit Bats - Ruminant Band National - High Violet Get Up Kids - Simple Science Titus Andronicus - The Airing of Grievances

Agreed I think rounding out my top 4 would be VW, Besnard Lakes, and Frightened Rabbit. I also really liked Los Campesinos! and Broken Bells. Manny, I have a feeling the Besnard Lakes are a band you could really get into. A lot of smudged guitar sounds with dream pop vocals. Thanks DC - another band that I need to get into! I'm just kidding - just shows you how much great music is out there, especially music that may not be considered "mainstream". Public Image Ltd - The Flowers of Romance (great album) Lee "Scratch" Perry - Return of the Super Ape
Saint Bartlett- Damien Jurardo. Pretty good considering the album was produced over the coarse of a week.
When did Nada Surf become indie? And radio DJs, yes you know the full background of Brian Eno and all his associated works, PLUS the covers of his works. You've known about a lot of avant guarde French musicians for years now but you're just giving us a "tinge" of whats out there. That doesn't mean you're down with everything France, cut that out. I'm not trying to make YOU a connoisseur, I just want to listen to some good tunes. I know there's always a fine line between being very knowledgable and appearing smug while doing it and we all cross it. But GEEZ on SOME of these guys...And no, Right Said Fred to kick off a playlist starting with MGMT and EXPLAINING why you did that doesnt make you cool and snarky. At least top 40 just says " __ is up next. Then __ after that. Rock on". Don't annoy me back to mainstream.

Christine Ohlman and Rebel Montez. Christine was an original member of the SNL band w/ GE Smith. video quality is lousy, but this is the title cut from her latest album, The Deep End: <object width="640" height="505"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/8_J_CqMqx0o&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/8_J_CqMqx0o&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="505"></embed></object>
