This is a pretty cool rock record. Big gigantic guitar sounds. Power chords underneath one or two squealing, hook-filled guitars. Kind of sounds like Andrew WK but without vocals.

 

pretty fun day. a few cds i've never listened to at all or not all the way through, but enjoyed tremendously:

That Heartless Bastards Album is really good.


Bob Marley - Talking Blues

 

Here’s one for the hard core indie fans. Recently CBC Radio 3 teamed up with its French Canadian equivalent, Bande à Part, to do a kind of French/English exchange. They put a popular French indie band together with the vocalist from a popular English band and translated several of the songs from French lyrics into English and performed them in a live off the floor broadcast, and then they did the same with another pair of artists in reverse, translating several songs from English to French.

For the first session the band was a French Canadian band named Karkwa. They’re huge in Quebec, and apparently big in France as well, but they only sing in French and aren’t well known in English Canada and are essentially unknown in the rest of the English world. The English singer is Liz Powell of Land of Talk and Broken Social Scene. Here’s an explanation of what they’re doing.
