Oh, I saw your post and didn't realize the album had leaked until just now. (I'm two days out of the loop!) I thought you were just listening to that one track "Odessa" which has been released for a month. I've listened to this album all the way through about 4 times in a row. There have been some great releases in 2010.
Alberta Cross is a criminally under rated band. I love these guys. They are my favorite Swedish/British blue rock band ever. Take a listen to their first album entitled "Thief and The Heartbreaker" released in 2007. Thats what got me hooked to this band.
The album is really terrific. 2010 is promising to be a great year. I'm so stoked that Caribou/Toro y Moi are coming to Houston. It's nice that some acts are actually making a stop here in Houston!
love that band. the 'purists' all slag off stoned and dethroned, but thats a great album. darklands is my favorite, but honeys dead, psychocandy and s&d are up there too. heck, automatic is good too! i saw what was their last show in 98 - mercury rev was opening for them at stubbs in austin - the 2 bros had gotten in a fight and the guitarist quit and flew home (noel from oasis?) - the touring guitarist was thrust into the 'lead' guitar role and did good, but people kept shouting 'WHERES WILLIAM!' throughout the set. listening to some texas tornados in anticipation of their sxsw show next week.
I'm so jealous. The JAMC is one of my all time favorite bands, but I'm too young to have known it when they were actively touring. Darklands is my favorite also. The JAMC are a huge influence on many of my favorite contemporary bands.
I actually saw Caribou with Born Ruffians opening for them at Engine Room back in 2007. I went to the show only familiar with Caribou and but was blown away by Born Ruffians. There were only about 50 people at that show. I'm sure the Houston show will be packed this time around. Good to see these acts swing by these parts of the country. Dan Snaith of Caribou is literally a very brilliant guy. He was finishing his PHD in mathematics while he was composing Andorra.
I can't believe you saw that show! That's some serious history right there with that band. The only time I got to see them was at lollapalooza 2. That was a good day for me. Some incredible performances that day from several bands
Jack Johnson - Sitting, Waiting, Wishing Good music to have in the background while you're trying to get some work done. On an unrelated note, daylight saving couldn't have come at a worse weekend
did you go to the ft. bend county fairgrounds show? i went to that too. cant believe the first one skipped h-town in favor of dallas. i was 16 and my 'rents were not going to let me travel to up there for that. i remember the j&m chain - ive still got some pics i took during their set - they had a massive fog machine going and it was daytime - they are all in black and its sept. in houston - silly scots! they came back the next year and played the unicorn w/ i think spiritualized, curve and blur(?) - i got in trouble a few weeks before hand and was not allowed to go to that show - regrettable
Oh yeah that's the one, I was there. Lush was first then a relatively unknown Pearl Jam who were actually incredible that day. Soundgarden, JAMC, Ice Cube, Chili Peppers headlined. I have to say though, IMO Ministry stole the show, it was finally dark, the sound was deafening, great light show and several bigtime guest spots, mindblowing for me. Yeah really upset I didn't make the trip to Dallas the year before, many great acts and I was totally into Jane's Addiction
I've been listening to Electrelane - No Shouts, No Calls, Electrelane - Singles, B-Sides, and Live I think I'm late to the party on these guys, but I really enjoy them.
Damn really? When I saw My Bloody Valentine I was convinced my head was going to explode. And I was several hundred yards away from the stage.
Kate Jackson of the Long Blondes, double the yumminess, sight and sound. Was this that mini-indie fest, Rollercoaster tour they did?
thats it! i dont think blur was on the u.s. leg of the tour though, but i cant remember the 4th band. ive been on a texas tornados kick the last few days...CONJUNTO ROCK! looking forward to seeing them during sxsw.
Haha. Yeah, I was upstairs, but had a great view the whole show. It was only the last 20 minutes or so that were like O_O -- It wasn't as loud as I had anticipated, though (maybe my expectations were unrealistic ) Every time I've gone to APTBS, they've been loud as hell (the entire show). One of my friends who had never seen them before went in SF and said they sucked and were "way too loud" - lol. That is what they are known for. I guess some people might view it as gimmicky, but I've always really enjoyed them live. I'm pretty sure you like The Big Pink (right?), but for me that's how it is with them. There's something about them that makes it difficult for me to get into them, which sucks because I feel like I should like them way more than I do. Oh well. I'm sure the show will be good.
Been listening to a lot of the JGL song lately. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/T1iP4nnrA0M&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/T1iP4nnrA0M&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
