Broken Bells Wasn't blown away on the first five songs. Melodies were just kind of there and the production seemed kind of generic. Hmmm...maybe needs more listens.
I was going to point that track out. It stood out to me on my first listen through along with "girl I love you." Im really digging the album bigtime, thanks Harrisment
Cool. My favorite track on the album is Atlas Air. Love how it just goes along slowly building up, and then kicks in and blows you away after 5 minutes or so.
npr's all songs considered did a 45 minute interview w/ those dudes a couple days ago - worth a listen if you are interested in their creative process. as a musician i especially enjoyed listening to danger mouse talk 'shop'. pretty sharp guy. i listened to this and head over heals (my favourite c.k. record) yesterday- i like how you specified 'UK' version too! checking out the new hendrix release right now - valleys of neptune - im really impressed - some really killer live takes - if you like the bbc sessions you will love this - great playing and the sound quality is the best ive heard of his live stuff. fantastic job mastering this. and these solos are some of his best. another reminder of all the great music we were robbed of when this guy died. as amazing a guitarist as he was, he was still getting better.
Groovy! There's no question that Jimi was still pushing the envelope of his potential, and had a long way to go to ever get close to reaching it. I saw him several times in concert, the last with Band of Gypsies, and he never failed to surprise me. I'll be picking this up ASAP.
Jo mama, yesterday? Man that's kinda crazy. Love love that record and band. Deckard, cannot believe you got to see Hendrix! Wow. Very impressive, several times no less. Mad credit to you sir. Brian Eno & David Byrne-My Life in the Bush Of Ghosts <-----WOW
im am jealous of your oldness! seeing him live must have been an experience, pun intended. the live stuff was a different beast than the studio albums - both are cool, but live is when hendrix really cut loose. thats the most exciting stuff to me and as far as live recordings, this is the best stuff ive heard from an audio quality pov. i like led zep for the same reason - they werent simply recreating the songs as they sound on the album. you can hear 10 different live versions of red house or bring it on home and they would all go in totally different directions.
Whenever someone asks me about getting into a new artist or band I always tell them the same thing. I believe an artist's best stuff will always be on their first album.
You know there is something to that line of thinking and even more so now-a-days where bands/artists don't have the time to develop.
