i probably havent even thought of that album over 15 years much less listened to it. its up on rhapsody so ill give it a listen and see how it holds up - most of that stuff ends up sounding really dated. were you a front 242 fan too? - "im looking for this man, to sell him to other man"
If you're into SoM, Bauhaus, Joy Division, etc., I HIGHLY recommend Soror Dolorosa's album "Severance" that came out last year. It's excellent. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/9TUJTHuS1Io&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/9TUJTHuS1Io&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> Not my favorite song from the album, but the whole thing is just really solid (only six songs, but they're pretty lengthy). Was just listening to it again the other day.
nice one! i dont know what that 3rd pic is, but is that varg? after a few listens i have to say that while it retains most of the black-metal qualities of his earlier work, this stuff is much more dare i say, atmospheric - alot of it reminds me of of isis/pelican and that whole 'shoegaze-metal' scene - its heavy and drony, but it has that ethereal wash of fuzzed out guitars. its still evil, but its not as aggro as his pre-prison work. and his voice is shredded - he doesnt do the "im being raped by satan" screeching vocals - instead its now this sub-guttural growl/whisper which in a way is even scarier.
"Headhunter" love Front 242! They are actually still pumping out pretty solid music. Nitzer Ebb was just in Houston a couple months ago and sounded fantastic. They also have a new album out. As far as "floodland" is concerned it probably holds up better than anything they've done. I just totally dig that whole era
Danko Jones - Born a Lion Danko Jones - We Sweat Blood Danko Jones - Sleep is the Enemy Motörhead - Bomber Gilby Clarke - Pawnshop Guitars
Burnt Weeny Sandwich - Frank Zappa Lick My Decals Off, Baby - Captain Beefheart God in Three Persons - The Residents Space Is the Place (the album, not soundtrack) - Sun Ra
sun kil moon - ghosts of the great highway - one of the best albums of the decade for me (top 3) - if you are into neil young you might enjoy - or if you are a boxing fan, its also a concept/tribute album about dead boxers - duk koo kim, salvador sanchez, pancho villa
Listening to the new Gorillaz album, 'Plastic Beach.' Stream the album in its entirety here a week before it's released: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=124114812
This was in my top 5 of the decade for sure. I saw Mark Kozelek of Sun Kil Moon play in a church back at SXSW 2008. It was so amazing. His live version of Duk Koo Kim was so haunting, brought me to tears. One of the greatest 12 minutes of my life.
I was a little disappointed to find out that The Tallest Man on Earth wasn't actually the tallest man on earth when I saw him in concert last year. He is about 6 foot, Swedish and has blonde hair. Nice fella.
