Appartjik---"We are Here" (2010) new album from supergroup from Mew, Coldplay and A-Ha band members. Its outstanding, as Jonas from Mew does most of the vocals.
I just got the "This American Life" app for my iPod. It's what I've been listening to the most in the last two days. "This American Life is a hit public radio show and most weeks, the most popular podcast in the country. This app gives you on-demand access to all episodes going back to the show's launch in 1995. In other words, you get the full archive of the series, at your fingertips. You can stream for free or (for 99 cents) download any episode, search by episode name or by a favorite contributor's name, or listen in order from the beginning."
This American Life is amazing. I saw that app; it's getting great reviews. I'll have to pick it up. I've been listening to mostly podcasts lately as well. Also a little Cage The Elephant.
I still haven't completely warmed up to 'In Rainbows'. I love All I Need and Jigsaw Falling into Place, but other than that, the album isn't that memorable for me. The Bends is still my favorite album, followed closely by Kid A. I honestly felt like In Rainbows was their weakest album next to Pablo Honey. I was disappointed when last time they came here (to be expected), most of their live material revolved around In Rainbows.
I love The Bends and OK Computer a lot but neither one comes close to the love I have for Kid A (not crazy about Amnesiac, ironically enough or Pablo Honey and Hail to the Thief). I was beginning to wonder if Radiohead was ever going to put an album out that was as good or close to being as good as Kid A as I was disappointed with their last 2 albums (even though each album had a couple of killer songs, just inconsistent). I can't explain it with In Rainbows but something clicked with me and that album immediately. Listen to it 5 straight times and see if that changes your opinion about it. Just like Kid A, you will hear something new and different every time you listen to it.
I will revisit it sometime in the near future. I listened to it several times when it initially leaked (and several times after), and while I wanted to love it, I just didn't. Amnesiac isn't my favorite, but I did quite like Hail to the Thief. I'd actually recommend revisiting that one. Speaking of, the Benefit for Haiti live recording that's floating around the 'net right now is pretty decent. Would've been a cool show to have gone to.
I never was into Radiohead. Only when "In Rainbows" was released did I fully listen to it and became enchanted by their sound. Its probably my most favourite of all their albums.

I find this bizarre, but to each his/her own. If I'm being 100% honest, with the exception of the two songs I mentioned, I kind of feel like listening to In Rainbows is the equivalent of watching paint dry. It just feels like more than a few steps back.

IMHO, everything Radiohead has put out since The Bends has turned to gold. They just have "it." The Bends is great, so is Kid A, Amnesiac, Hail, Rainbows, and Pablo is very good. But OK Computer is in the top 10-20 all time list for me. No matter how many times I hear it, or no matter how hyped it is, that doesn't take away from the fact that it's just a flat-out masterpiece. The power of stuff like Android, Electioneering, Alien, Airbag, etc. is still incredible to this day, and Let Down may just be one of the best songs ever written by any artist. Oh, this week: Green Day- 21st Century Breakdown The Replacements- Pleased to Meet Me The Kinks- Face to Face Radiohead- The Bends CCR- Green River Red Rockers- Good as Gold Offspring- Rise & Fall Heatwave- Best of Foghat- Tight Shoes 5.6.7.8s- Bomb the Rocks The Tubes- Completion Backward Principle
flaming lips - embryonic - im really trying w/ this record...i thought at war w/ the mystics was a piece of crap and my first few listens of this one had left me ready to write these guys off. ive listened to it close to 10 times now and there still isnt much that sticks w/ me - its all just plodding jams, which makes sense as they wrote during jam sessions. why did drozd have to quit heroin? the songs are too long (most seem to be in the 5-6 minute range) and the album itself is 18 songs - but i dont even know if it would have been a better album if it was edited down to 12 or so as the songs themselves arent very strong, imo. soft bulletin would be a top 15-20 all time-album for me any day of the week though. i was thinking about double albums recently and how for alot of my favorite bands my favorite album of theirs is their double album... rolling stones - exile on main st. beatles - white album (not my fav of theirs, but its up there) prince - sign o' the times george harrison - all things must pass (best beatles solo album, easily) cure - kiss me, kiss me, kiss me stevie wonder - songs in the key of life (not my fav of theirs, but its up there) led zep - physical graffiti (not my fav of theirs, but its up there) hendrix - electric ladyland radiohead - kid a/amnesiac (came out of same sessions so close enough) all double albums and all amazing.
