i have listened to i and love and you probably six times in the last two days. quite possibly my favorite release of 2009.
Dinosaur Jr. - s/t You and the other thousands of people who started hating them once they became popular. j/k...but speaking of, I did just see that the album is #1 on the billboards
im not that into them either - imo, vampire weekend are to the dirty projectors as coldplay is to radiohead. a safer, watered down, less interesting version. their songs are pleasant enough, but it doesnt really do anything for me - and their whole 'we are preppy and wear polo shirts and boat shoes and drive volvo station wagons and prance around on yachts in our videos' shtick seems really contrived. its like american apparel's marketing team put these guys together to sell clothes. jo mama aint buyin' it!
saw them last night on conan - spoon always comes off good on national tv - i remember their appearance on snl a couple years ago being one of the best performances id seen on there in years. im not a huge fan, but i enjoy what i hear - they just started getting big when i moved to austin in 95 and i remember seeing them a bunch when they were a 3 piece w/ brit playing electrified acoustic. i liked the stuff they did up thru series of sneaks best - this album seems like its similar to that stuff - more angular and raw - pixies-esque.
Not familiar with that one - I think you mean "A Brief History of Love" by Big Pink as that is the only studio album they have done that is available. Too many to list since my last post in this thread - I'll just go with these: Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix - Phoenix Exploding Head - A Place to Bury Strangers Saturdays = Youth - M83 And Glass Handed Kites - Mew Gala - Lush Hush - Asobi Seksu Heaven's End - Loop
Not sure if I'm seeing the comparison too much. I actually find VW's music pretty interesting, definitely more than Coldplay. Catchy indie pop songs with heavy world music influences. I find Dirty Projectors interesting for completely different reasons. I actually find it kind of refreshing. At least its better than acting all NY Punk. Another band made up of wealthy young kids called the Strokes tried that and were promptly called out on it.
I saw this clip from David Letterman today with The Heavy and I had to go out get both their cd's. Both are real good Nuevo Soul (think Black Joe Lewis) http://www.cbs.com/late_night/late_...OfdkqPhyLc_5uASnrFZKAgkd&vs=Default&play=true (didn't have an embed link ?)
Thanks dude! I have gotten lots of help and tips over the years from this place on various artists and albums - shoegazing is probably my favorite genre right now. I have heard of last.fm but don't know much about it besides the name. Shoot me an email at manny_ramirez73@yahoo.com if you like. Drum's Not Dead - Liars God Is an Astronaut - God Is an Astronaut Misery Is a Butterfly - Blonde Redhead Extremities, Dirt, and Various Repressed Emotions - Killing Joke
Beach House- Teen Dream Spencer Krug- Moonface EP Kings of Convenience- Quiet is the New Loud Surfer Blood- Astro Coast Telepathe- Dance Mother Junip- Black Refuge Album Leaf- A Chorus of Storytellers Yeasayer- Odd Blood
Spiritualized - Pure Phase Filling in the gaps of some of my favorite artists' discographies. Also been listening to Spoon's Transference. I like it pretty well after the first two songs, which I think are kind of flat and boring. Really completely different than their last album. Written in Reverse is probably the most angry song they've ever made, and I think that same tone can be heard throughout.
