After Mother's Milk it was the long sad road to over produced ultra-stardom.

Manny Manny Manny, how can you call yourself a fan of music and not listen to the RHCP. . . Seriously they are one of my top three bands of all time. Unlike some I dont expect a band to keep playing a certain type of music. I understand as a band changes so does the playing style, hence the music changes. I would hope the music would change, I only have so much room in my heart for the ramones and AC DC. I dont think I could fit many more bands in with them. To me its been pretty cool to watch the transformation of RHCP. I am also really glad that John Frusciante is back. Its seems to have brought back the peppers to me. I really really did not like Dave Navarro as a guitarist for them. Then again I am a huge Janes Fan. . .the first time around, so seeing him with the peppers was a real contradiction, and totaly diffrent sound that I did not like. I think thats why One Hot Minute got such a backlash.

Sorry for the rambling on, just listen on Manny, its a great world the Peppers have created.

OK, again, I'm not trying to sound like a RHCP snob. Everyone is entitled to their own musical opinions.

    But....

Man, I just can't understand how anyone could like the last few albums when compared to their earlier stuff. It's not even the same band. The last album I liked by them was BSSM. I didn't like the radio 'hits' on that album (except oddly enough, I still like Give It Away despite it's overplay on the radio), but some of the other tracks like Sir Psyco Sexy are top knotch and I think it's Chad's best drumming to date, but that's another thread...

I was so happy when Navarro left and they brought Frusciante back because I like his playing. So I bought the first album they made when he returned and was so utterly dissappointed that I pretty much accepted the fact that they'll never be what they used to be, even with Frusciante back in the fold.

Honestly, I'm not trying to sound pompous or anything, but you guys really need to check out their old stuff before you start talking about how great Dani California is.

I am not really a fan of RHCP, so my opinion my not count for too much. I do like some of their songs ok, and if I wasn't so annoyed Anthony's voice even on songs I consider to be good, I might like some of them alot.

BSSM is worse than the albums that came before them, IMHO. Many RHCP fans really didn't like Californication and subsequent albums. But I actually like those best of all. I think the song writing is just better on those. They seemed firmly re-meld with their guitarist, and weren't just repeating the same schtick over and over. I consider that Flea's best bass playing.

It may not be as fast and tricky, but it is great stuff, and does a better job fitting in and filling up the music. In the earlier stuff, Flea mainly showed that a bass player can be as big of an a&$hole with his instrument as lead guitarists, until those albums.

I will second the props for Fishbone. They were great.

I agree with most of the other posters here... BSSM was the beginning of the downward slide. I can't stand anything about RHCP's current music... The song-writing is lame, the songs are overproduced, and Anthony can't sing his way out of a paper bag. He sounded so much better before he tried to be all melodic...
