It isn't about what the music sounds like, it's being able to tell your friends about the band you saw last week and pray to god they haven't heard of them so you can rave on about them and be uber faux-pretentious until you've finished the rest of your green tea and tofu taco.
she is HOT!!! but I dont like her music, well actually I only listened like a half song of her, I have to hear more, to criticize.
Since I'm latin, being able to speak spanish opens up a whole other world. Normally I'm stingy (like most Latins I know) with my Latin music but since I accidently posted my favorite Latin Album this year I figured I might as well share the wealth. Just a bit of info, there's been a wonderfull wave of Latin indie/alternative music this decade. It started in the 90's but the quantity/quality has been amazing during the last 5 years. I found that most of this stuff gets zero airplay -at least in Houston, and MTV3 is heavey on the Pop (shakira/paulina rubio) and Regeaton. Hope you enjoy and I'll include youtube links were possible. #1 CSS - Cansei de Ser Sexy (Sao Paolo, Brazil) My favorite track on this album is called Superafim, I still can't stop singing this song. If you like Ladytron or Chicks on Speed this might be right up your ally. Really great album all the way through. This track is called Alala. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/apB7V4PIeLI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/apB7V4PIeLI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #2 Los Super Elegantes - Channelizing Paradise (Buenos Aires, Argentina). This album rocks!!!! It's all over that map, fusing so many genres. With tracks sung in both spanish/english you really don't need to understand spanish to buy it. This album rocks so much that my parents asked me for a copy since they cover some spanish classics from way back in the 70's. Including this song entitledSixteen. *the sound quality doesn't do justice but at a proper bitrate this song rocks. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/kmIQr_JXJPk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/kmIQr_JXJPk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #3 Kinky - Reina (D.F., Mexico) Kinky does it again. Although they're doing more songs in english (a bit to much for my taste) they're still one of the finest bands anywhere. Sister Twisted uses some Norteño (stuff you might hear at a taqueria) beats to create some sexy electro funk. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/dzWPrn7HWrs"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/dzWPrn7HWrs" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #4 Aterciopleados - Oye (Bogota, Colombia) There equaly in stature (not sound) to The Red Hot Chili Peppers/Radiohead within Latin American Alt Rock. This album isn't the masterpieces that there last two were, but the album is still very good. The 1st track released was Complemento. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/Huzo6ClspyI"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/Huzo6ClspyI" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #5 Babasonicos - Anoche (Buenos Aires, Argentina) These guys are huge in Latin American Alt Rock. Their albums are always different, ranging from Depeche Mode to U2. This one really pays off from beging to end. Yegue is my favorite track.*sound quality of video doesn't do them justice* <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/msDRjxrBlw8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/msDRjxrBlw8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #6 Los Búnkers -Vida de Perros (Concepción, Chile) So this album came out in the US in spring 2006, but in Latin America it was available a bit sooner. I'm counting this as a 2006 release since I didn't get my hands on it untill Feb. They have a similar sound to Franz Ferdinand and The Strokes. I was only able to find a live version of my favorite track Ven Aqui. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5tGnGE8vWA"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5tGnGE8vWA" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #7 Zoé - Memo Rex Commander y el Corazon Atomico de la Via Lactea (D.F.,Mexico) One of the best latin rock albums this decade. Soft and at times meloncholy it merits droping $10 u.s..... or 50 pesos if your in Mexico. No me destruyas is a great track. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/P0BY5oA0sD8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/P0BY5oA0sD8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #8 Julieta Venegas - Limón y Sal (Tijuana, Mexico) What can I say. This is my guilty pop pick. Although in my defense when Julieta Venegas stared out her carrer was parrallel to Sarah Maclachlan when she did guest vocals for Manufactue. She started out indie and just blew up. Anyway, I still dig her music. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/aVVqdNOaFTk"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/aVVqdNOaFTk" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #9 Monareta - Electronoche (Bogota, Colombia) This is just one nice funky electro lounge album. You ca either work out to it or put it on at home right before you hookup. It will give you a nice groove. This is El General Midi. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/qHfP2VJhFR8"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/qHfP2VJhFR8" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> #10 Belanova - Dulce Beat (Guadalajara, Mexico) This album is very catchy. Not for eveyones taste though. Kinda a New Wave bublegum mellow sound throughout. The chick has some nice vocals and more importantly it's very catchy. The catchiest track is Rosa Pastel. One word of advice if your a male, you don't want to be humming or singing this song among spanish males. Enjoy it in silence. <object width="425" height="350"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/6D3oBfsrJ2I"></param><param name="wmode" value="transparent"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/6D3oBfsrJ2I" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" wmode="transparent" width="425" height="350"></embed></object> Honarable Metion : The Pinker Tones - The Million Color Revolution Chetes - Blanco Facil Pistolera - Pistolera Plastina Mosh - Tasty + B-Sides.
