I assumed someone would have mentioned this by now while scrolling through the thread. This album came out though 20 years ago a few days ago. To be honest it really freaks me out. The whole time thing. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/IW-9eOPAWdA" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Anyways this album was IT for me that year. These two guys were truly on another whole level.
That is true about rap. There's still rappers carrying the unapologetic thug banner. Early 50 Cent, The Game, Rick Ross, etc I guess I'm saying a lot of a PARTICULAR KIND of POPULAR rap sound lessened after. (Underground rap aside) There's not as much straight up start to finish GUN play where like entire albums are just describing different ways of how they have to pull out the "tools", grab my "piece", whip out the "burner", how to send bodies missing, If THIS happens - Ima HAVE to 'Coded-Description-Of-Shooting' ...Mostly just the East Coast "gutter" sound really. I think people, for better or for worse, after BIG/Pac deaths people started to appreciate diversity of topics from Non-East regions because who CARES about East-West in first place. Puffy Daddy woulda never came out with Mo Money Mo Problems stuff and changed rap if BIG didnt pass. It helped get more women into rap and had to play some club stuff to sell units. And East Coast literally "stuck to its guns" too long and actually started playing catch-up to everyone later (Yes its some long winded theories there. But its always hearing "90 Was the BEST, Today Rap SUCKS!", though never any explanations to WHY its that way so tossing in possibilites lol)
BIG Hootie fan here! <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/oFLysouG86I" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/1aVHLL5egRY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="1280" height="720" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ln6WQqRDrCo" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I put "I only want to be with you" for obvious reasons (Dolphins)! ....... ....... .......
wow, that reminded me about the Wallflowers, I had my years mixed up but double checked and remembered Bringing Down the Horse, one of my favorite albums of all time. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Zzyfcys1aLM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/kXDiGtgPL6E" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/5qSAMtomFvk" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/RloXtzcCAf8" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Kind of a vague response breh! If you're stating that Hootie wasn't being played in 1996...regardless of when they debuted! Time & Only want to be with you were on "Billboards Top 100" for 1996. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Billboard_Year-End_Hot_100_singles_of_1996 ....... ....... .......
No I'm with you brotha! Just stating that The album came out before 1996. Yes people were still listening to them by then, I agree. As you can see on the billboard charts. Just reflecting on songs that debuted in 96. GO HOOTIE!!!

I was a child at the time and listened mostly to top 40 radio until the early-to-mid '00s. I never particularly cared for "alternative" rock. Maybe it's nostalgia, but I have newfound appreciation for it in recent years. Immediately, I knew Beck would be at or near the top of the list. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/EPfmNxKLDG4" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Lol, well... I mentioned Tool, it's just a pita to post from phone... Playing some now as I post though
Man, going through this thread is somewhat of a surreal experience now. 20 ****ing years ago... I remember all these songs like it were yesterday. Where I was at sometimes, what I was doing, who I was with, just memories. I was 15 and just turned 16 in 1996. Man, what the ****? Where has the time gone? I remember listening to these songs on my sony discman, you know, the ones that skipped if you touched it. My first car was a 1994 dodge dakota. I used to record a lot of these songs on cassette tape so I can play it in the truck on the way to school. Now I am in my mid-late 30's looking back at 1996 like it was yesterday but in reality it was what seems like a whole other life ago. So much has changed. Damn.....

^yeah man, time flies like a MOFO. Ya'll remember that high school crush/sweetheart? Ya'll remember pagers like a mofo, LOLOLOL. AOL dial up and ****.
Hell yeah. I remember being in the AOL chat rooms with a "Grant hill drinks Sprite!?" commercial playing in the background on my 27'' tube TV. Wearing my CB34 shoes and my Mossimo/Stussy Tshirt like it were yesterday.
Explicit Uncensored Video Version..From The 1996 Album : Picture This..Picture This is the first album released by rap group, Do or Die. It was released on September 3, 1996 for Rap-A-Lot and Virgin Records and was produced mainly by The Legendary Traxster with 8 songs. The album proved to be a huge success for the group, peaking at #27 on the Billboard 200 and #3 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. The album also featured the hit single, "Po Pimp", which peaked at #22 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on the Hot Rap Singles. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jJOvp7xxoTQ Don't get no mo 20yrs than this!! <iframe width="560" height="315" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/jJOvp7xxoTQ?rel=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>
Antichrist Superstar was the album I came here to mention. I remember listening to it for the first time at the "listening table" they had at Blockbuster Music. As a 17 year old kid full of rage, it blew my mind. Became a huge Manson fan immediately and saw them live for the first time in January 97. At the time, no concert had come anywhere close to leaving an impact on me like that one did. Although their next 2 albums were decent, it went steeply downhill after that. Of course no longer having Trent Reznor produce your albums will have that effect. Not a fan these days of course, but I'll still jam some ACS, Portrait, and Smells Like Children every once in a while. In keeping with the thread, here's the track "1996" from ACS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jPOSQBMq1rU&sns=em
