I'm blushing. I'm not a guru, not by any stretch. A strangely obsessed fan of post rock would be more accurate. I do agree that DC and Brightside bring it strong. Good members to have here.
I want to see an epic art rock battle between LL and Brightside. Don't count out stipendlax though, he is a darkhorse. Bonus points for whoever rolls their own cigarettes. Oh, and I saw Conor Oberst sing "Silent Night" at his 3rd grade Christmas Play.
Black Eyed Peas > of montreal (burn) **** buttons > M83....??? wow really? I am really impressed with f buttons but it might be a little early to put them ahead of M83. although, it wasn't that long ago when I seriously thought.... Rilo Kiley > Fleetwood Mac yea, that didn't last very long. lol.
I would lose. I tend to limit my "art-rock" selections to, primarily, post rock. Those guys seem well versed in many different genres. well, I did drink a papst blue ribbion at the MONO show in Austin. That made me feel pretty hipster.
there should be a [MUSIC]Need Help With These Bands throwdown as the undercard to the fatty/bats extravaganza.

okay moes, that was better than I expected. I loved the outfits, the 'stache, and especially the genres of music described.
I hadn't watched the video that moes posted but I have a feeling that it will be a great one. At any rate, I have listened to the past 2 days or so when I get a chance the 3 singles for MGMT in "Time to Pretend", "Electric Feel", and "Kids" that DC posted. I am definitely hooked and could care less if the rest of the album sucks - I'm getting "Oracular Spectacular" sometime soon in the near future. As for M83, I was listening to some of their tracks off the Dead Cities album on youtube and liked what I heard there as well. So, I will be getting that album soon along with eventually, "Saturdays=Youth". More music for me to want to buy. Hooray.
No I don't. I have it in my 6cd changer in the car. I do have an ipod if I want to take music to the gym.

I'm losing my edge. The kids are coming up from behind. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids from France and from London. But I was there. I was there in 1968. I was there at the first Can show in Cologne. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge to the kids whose footsteps I hear when they get on the decks. I'm losing my edge to the Internet seekers who can tell me every member of every good group from 1962 to 1978. I'm losing my edge. To all the kids in Tokyo and Berlin. I'm losing my edge to the art-school Brooklynites in little jackets and borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered eighties. But I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge, but I was there. I was there. But I was there. I'm losing my edge. I'm losing my edge. I can hear the footsteps every night on the decks. But I was there. I was there in 1974 at the first Suicide practices in a loft in New York City. I was working on the organ sounds with much patience. I was there when Captain Beefheart started up his first band. I told him, "Don't do it that way. You'll never make a dime." I was there. I was the first guy playing Daft Punk to the rock kids. I played it at CBGB's. Everybody thought I was crazy. We all know. I was there. I was there. I've never been wrong. I used to work in the record store. I had everything before anyone. I was there in the Paradise Garage DJ booth with Larry Levan. I was there in Jamaica during the great sound clashes. I woke up naked on the beach in Ibiza in 1988. But I'm losing my edge to better-looking people with better ideas and more talent. And they're actually really, really nice. I'm losing my edge. I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s. I hear you're buying a synthesizer and an arpeggiator and are throwing your computer out the window because you want to make something real. You want to make a Yaz record. I hear that you and your band have sold your guitars and bought turntables. I hear that you and your band have sold your turntables and bought guitars. I hear everybody that you know is more relevant than everybody that I know. But have you seen my records? This Heat, Pere Ubu, Outsiders, Nation of Ulysses, Mars, The Trojans, The Black Dice, Todd Terry, the Germs, Section 25, Althea and Donna, Sexual Harrassment, a-ha, Pere Ubu, Dorothy Ashby, PIL, the Fania All-Stars, the Bar-Kays, the Human League, the Normal, Lou Reed, Scott Walker, Monks, Niagra, Joy Division, Lower 48, the Association, Sun Ra, Scientists, Royal Trux, 10cc, Eric B. and Rakim, Index, Basic Channel, Soulsonic Force ("just hit me"!), Juan Atkins, David Axelrod, Electric Prunes, Gil! Scott! Heron!, the Slits, Faust, Mantronix, Pharaoh Sanders and the Fire Engines, the Swans, the Soft Cell, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics, the Sonics. You don't know what you really want. (x15)
run into flowers - M83. and check out every remix of that song, they all seem to be good. weekend wars is my favorite MGMT song. if you are diggin M83 you'd probably like.... <object width="320" height="265"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/B2zRSkVPZ4w&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/B2zRSkVPZ4w&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="320" height="265"></embed></object>
Cool! Yeah, it's worth having for those songs alone...maybe you'll like the rest of it as well. I'm actually really curious to see how their next album turns out. Part of me still thinks/hopes they are a fluke, but that's looking less likely. The Flaming Lips even collaborated with them on <i>Embryonic</i>. Anyway, I think this scene from High Fidelity explains my feelings on MGMT better than I can...
In the same vein as moes' video, "Where the Dirty Hipsters Are"-- <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5mLuPJ0S8Q&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-5mLuPJ0S8Q&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Since this seems like a thread where fans of this band would be... HEALTH is playing tomorrow in Houston at Mango's. Their latest album Get Color is very solid. They recently opened for NIN on their Lights in the Sky tour, and I find quite a bit of similarity in their sounds. Good stuff that you should check out if you haven't already. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EWZxThGh5wQ&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EWZxThGh5wQ&hl=en&fs=1&rel=0&color1=0x234900&color2=0x4e9e00" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
