if it comes off as naive to so many posters, maybe it's not an Internet or a message board thing.

maybe it's this artist doesn't have a clue to what he's talking about.

stick to writing songs about skateboarding and fashion.

He's a rapper, not a politician. What do you expect? I love Lupe's music, but don't be criticising him because you were expecting him to rap out a research paper or something...

I wouldn't start a debate if you don't plan on debating.

I'm a fan, but that song is weak. I'm sick of every rap song having a chick with a big voice (or Akon) singing a hook. You think they would learn from Nas -- 1st album a simple, stripped down classic -- Nas 'Escobar' overproduced crap.

    1. Trash a rapper for ignorant, uneducated content.
    2. Wish that Lupe had a shade of true political intelligence. (Hello Public Enemy)
    3. Log out of Clutchfans, go listen to Rakim and A Tribe Called Quest.
    4.?????
    5. Hip Hop is dead, because the fans defend this ignorant, unintelligent, poorly researched, bilge...

"Elvis was a hero to most
But he never meant **** to me you see
Straight up racist that sucker was
    Simple and plain
    Mother---- him and John Wayne"

    hmmmm kinda sounds like...

"Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist
Gaza strip was getting bombed, Obama didn’t say ****
Thats why I aint vote for him, next one either
I’ma part of the problem, my problem is I’m peaceful
And I believe in the people."

    and also...

"To revolutionize make a change nothin's strange
People, people we are the same
    No we're not the same
Cause we don't know the game
What we need is awareness, we can't get careless
    You say what is this?
My beloved lets get down to business
    Mental self defensive fitness"

    kinda sounds like...

"It’s so loud inside my head
With words that I should have said!
As I drown in my regrets
I can’t take back the words I never said
I can’t take back the words I never said"

what exactly is public enemy making us aware of? the power? what exactly is their solution? to fight the power....oh okay, now i see...they sound very political ;)

all im saying is that you can take any old song and say the same old **** about it that your saying about words i never said, i listen to rakim and tribe and lupe is not by any means my favorite rapper but i like his music and i like this song.

i just think its ridiculous that people expect solutions from a rapper lol

No, no it doesn't. PE's message goes much, much deeper in the context of the political classic. "Fight the Power" had people changing their lives, getting out and making a difference back in that time period. A very important piece of revolution.

Lupe's is just shock an awe, Or shock and bilge, Or bilge and bilge.

Man, hip hop gets such a bad rep just for being rap. A lot of people aren't going to give a hip hop track a chance, just because its hip hop. Like there is no way hip hop can be created with any sort of intelligence. I can't think of any other music genre that gets an automatic negative stigma that hip hop has.

I like this track. The beat is banging, chorus is nice and the song has substance. I don't follow politics so I'm not going to comment on the merit of his lyrics, but yall make it seems like this song was soulja boy or drake bad. I don't see it that way.

I would say country carries a stigma similar to rap. Probably because both genres suck so much.
