Lupe should try going to college first. Get a edjumacation. Nothing revolutionary about what he said in his song. Same ol' b*tchin and whining heard before.

It's not cause he didn't go to college. You don't have to go to college to be intelligent or aware of social/political/moral issues. It's because he sounds like an idiot when talking about these issues and the subject matter appears to be beyond his intellectual ability. So maybe he should go to college. College is not for everyone. But in this case, it might help him.

    kinda disappointing :(

I thought Lupe was more clever than this. Seems like his emotions are hurting his word craft. This song sounds more like he dumbed down his word play to make sure people understood it.

The Bold is full of win.

People on the internet are all critics. It's one of the worst parts of the internet.

If a rapper talks about simple things like partying and girls "This is BS! It's not substance to this music!"

If a rapper talks about politics and world issues. "What is he talking about? He needs to talk about girls and partying again."

With some people you never win.

IDK about the rest of the post about Lupe being smart. But he has a right to express his views in his music. Any one complaining about him doing this is being a hypocrite unless all they listen to is Miley Cyrus and the Yin Yang Twins or something.

You do realize not every hip hop artist is the same? Lupe never talked about money cash hoes, why should he start now?

I love Lupe and he definitely deserves to express himself but the song still sucks as a song.

American terrorist is a great song.

this new SONG is just not creative.

As a lupe fan, I totally agree. I usually love his lyrics because it is very creative and his rhyming scheme combined with play on words creates a great song. But this song is definitely dumbed down for the public.

    This.

This is a great publicity stunt to sell records. It doesn't make him an intelligent poltician, though. Any person could take the top controversial headlines from CNN over the past 10 years, make them rhyme, and sell it. He is in the perfect position, where he is the new "it" for anti-bling rap fans, and is using it wonderully to his advantage. How many Youtube hits has he gotten off of this forum and others because of it. We are talking about it.

The only thing that makes him intelligent is not the actual subject matter he raps on, but the fact he is being controversial and getting people to notice him. Maybe the joke is on the haters, but that doesn't make him come off as any less of an idiot, or make anything he says actually solve any problems.

Agreed and, as with all music.... You sell records to make money, simple as that, and we the consumer buy the stuff anyways.. What so different about buying PS3, IPHONE, IPAD, FAGPAD, whatever godamn pad people buy it's there for the markets.. There is no integrity or intellectual part in any of this including my post, my lack of grammar and so forth, LOL....

Not necessarily. Integrity does play a part. You can make music because you love it, and if there is a market for it, it helps you continue doing what you love. There's no integrity in doing something that goes against who you are to get rich, but there can be a **** load of money in it. It's a balancing act. Only the person who is doing it can decide the turth, while everyone else can only have opinions.

I volunter coach a fifth grade basketball team becuase I love doing it. If I could make enough money to survive coaching fifth grade boys, it would be a consideration, or would I take the job that I love 75% of the time to make 1/3 more income, or do something I hate to be a bazillionaire? It comes down to your values, integrity, and what is important to you. People could say I was an idiot for not taking the road to be a bazillionaire or call me a w**** if I was a bazillionaire. Only I can judge my integrity.

my comments before listening to the song:

How often does any artist from any genre of music* provide a well thought out solution to the worlds problems (other than the basic love and respect of others)?? Should he be able to solve problems the government and other groups have spent years failing to? Should Obama turn to Edwin Starr for foreign policy decisions?

I won't say Lupe is some genius, that's not his job. His job as a hip hop artist is to express his feelings of the realities of his environment. And, for most rap artists that's being the voice for poor urban youth. I think he's done a decent job of that in the past. Maybe this song is crap but not having answers to america's problems can't be the reason why.

*I know someone will think it's clever to mention how hip hop isn't music. Please refrain from doing so. No one cares that you feel that way.

Hey man, I respect you a lot especially being a fifth grade coach.. I can not stand kids at all, how do people do it, fathers, mothers it's total insanity with kids.. I thought having a couple of dogs and cats was a lot of responsibility but it ain't nothing tell you become a parent, teacher or coach...

The problem isn't that it's controversial, the problem is that it boring and predictable. Like most music today.

Bring something new to the table.

Gotta agree with what others have said. It seems like he dumb-ed down the lyrics to get his message across. Maybe too much for some ppls taste.

In my view at least he is trying to stand for something even if it falls short.

Still I'd rather listen to some Rage against the Machine if I want to listen to political music.
