dont mean to be a leech or derail the thread, but can someone give me a waffles or what invite? i've been looking for one forever and didn't think starting a new thread would be a good idea. i can trade a demonoid invite for one.

Me too, cause I've been getting my music solely from TBP recently.

Anyway, I discovered dubstep recently and I love it. Especially Joker.

FINALLY a thread about the music I've been listening to when everyone else stopped circa 2000.

House and electronic music has changed a lot in the last 10 years, and its influence has seeped into practically every song in Houston. Shoot they even play the dark intensity remix of Lady Antebellum's Need You Now on the radio!

    <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/QnrfrHCFuRQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/QnrfrHCFuRQ&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object>

Artist wise deadmau5, eric prydz, kaskade, robbie rivera, cascada, david guetta, tiesto (who the latter two are performing at Coachella tonight) are pretty good.

David Guetta became a complete sell out, but his album before this past one was pure genius.

Indie = Independent. Specfically independent of labels or major commercialization.

    Pop = popular.

What happens when independent music seems to be so popular that everyone knows it?

How about when the interests of the band are moved from a record label to the band itself, and the band then decides to abuse the "Indie" tag for commercial interests?

I find these labels funny lol. Don't know why.

Anyways, I will repeat that there is nothing more idiotic than calling someone else's music preference a bad choice. To some people, good music is the bass shaking their ear drum. To others it's Pavarotti. Then there's Guns N Roses and Clay Aiken etc..

"Those peopel don't have good taste in house music" >> lol

It's the evolution of names. 'Alternative' to the mainstream. 'Independent' labels to major labels.

In the year 2000 a new genre of music will be called 'obscure'. It will eventually have 3 out of the top 10 grossing artists in 5 years.

This. I saw him live in 2008 (probably his peak), one of the most amazing experiences of my life. His current album with Akon, LMFAO, Estelle, Fergie, Kelly Rowland has some good beats, but the music is just not the same.

As for this thread, I do think it is becoming mainstream. I even heard a Tiesto track with Sean Kingston and Three Six Mafia. Then again, I think it started to become mainstream after this song:

Man that is one awesome set!

I found a clip of Guetta from this year's Coachella doing his most popular song. Just gets me [fist] pumped to wake up and go to work today.

    *edit - contradicted myself*

Really its not always about the music itself, its the culture of the people "embedded" into the form of music. Mary J Blige and Jessica Simpson can sing the same exact song. One will be termed "soul", one will be termed "pop".... but why is that? Thats how the industry works. And thats how people are too. If someone proclaims themselves a die hard country fan, people can draw conclusions on the type of person they are in everyday life.

If an upstart DJ from Belgium produces of the most lushest, grooviest house tunes, and his main listener base that buys all his music are quaint tribes in Africa and eskimos in Alaska, he'll probably feel a bit of letdown that it didnt reach his "intended" audience. But they have just as right to declare his house music an "eargasm" as anyone else. Even though most entertainers are whores and will go where the money and attention is, musician and listener can all have some kind of "agenda" behind their music. Crossing over actually can spoil things. Thats why clubs move once they get "too ghetto" :)

Thats why I dont pay any of that any mind and listen to what the heck I want.

As a young American living in Miami, I have grown quite attached to house (not techno).

Check this dude out, his name is DJ Blend. Quite the DJ.
