    Kanye didn't do shi*

Daft Punk was big before him. In fact, they blew the door open for his worthless self.

What would Underworld and The Chemical Brothers be considered? I used to listen to them a lot circa 2005.

It depends awfully lot on which albums/singles we are talking about. They both have made music at least from the early 90's. And when talking about electronic music that timespan covers about 99.9% electronic music ever published and things have evolved quite rapidly.

They have produced music that fall under many forms of house, some techno, big beat, some drum&bass, and even trance, in that time span.

Popular? in Hipster kitty circles yes. ;)

My buddy asked me to go see that *** Tiesto and I quickly declined.

I asked him where he'd be and he said a Freaking Concert venue.

All the Indie Electro bands I've been able to see in this ****y music city have been in tiny places.

77002.com does ok in promoting electronica shows in Houston. But Electronica is definitely not mainstream yet! I wouldn't call Kesha and new version of David Guetta electronic music. Guetta, before 2009, was one the best house DJs in the world.

And Trance isn't dead yet! There is still good trance, as long as Corsten and Above and Beyond are still around.

huh? kayne? i heard prodigy quite a bit before kayne was around. well... i guess it may be due to me being a clubber back in the days. i remember seeing "around the world" (not the poster) on the show twelve angry viewers on mtv when the vid debuted.

surprised at no mention prodigy (not the rapper) yet. "smack my b**** up" was great along with a few others.

Top 40 pop and hip-hop have been slowly biting electronic/dance sounds for the past 10 years, it's just became the norm now.

Despite drum & bass fanboys screaming 'sell out', I'm happy to see d&b producers getting crossover work now. Chase & Status did a lot of work on Rihanna's current album. And Rob Swire from Pendulum did her current hit, Rude Boy. Cheesy, yes, but I consider him a studio genius who can hang with the top mainstream producers in general. Fresh & Adam F recently went into the studio with Dead Prez to re-record a dubstep version of their classic, Hip-Hop. Adam F is also working on Redman's next album.

I think dubstep has a good chance to crossover Stateside. Chase & Status actually got their gig with Rihanna after she heard their dubstep track Saxon. And the LA scene is really strong right now (Rusko even moved there). The question is will pop acts bite the sound or will dubstep become popular on it's own?

Hip hop and electronic music have been married since the beginning. See: Kraftwerk and break dancing.

I'm a "minimal synth" and "new wave" guy, myself. I like a lot of Electro, but never really got much into Trance, Jungle, and the new "Dubstep" or whatever. The genesis of House in Chicago (and Detroit) was interesting to watch, coming from the disco scene and heavily influenced my Industrial.

In the songs posted, I find the beats overwhelming, distracting and annoying.

Don't have tunnel vision. The question was about the U.S.

Daft Punk has been huge for over a decade....everywhere EXCEPT the U.S. Ask the average Joe on the street who Daft Punk is and they will scratch their heads.

As for different types of Electro...I'm not even sure how to classify them. I'm not a details guy. If I like it, I like it. Recently I've really been into Benassi in all of his/their forms. What would that be considered? Dirty Electro?

I like all of the info, fellas.

    Electro house.

Benny Benassi is imo one of the worst things to happen to the house scene in 2000's. His first hit, Satisfaction, was absolutely huge everywhere and then countless others started to copy his thing. Benassi himself has basically just made the same song all over again.

It helps to have visions of beautiful women moving their hips in your head.

I don't like Kaskade or Guetta, but deadmau5 is brilliant. You have to be able to move your feet to appreciate Groovejet. Songs like Mojo - Lady, Michael Gray - Borderline are on most "all-time" house mixtapes and their commercial viability doesn't take away from how great they are. I'm not a big fan of songs I hear on hedkandi/ministry of sound CD's, but I don't rule out music because it could be on there.

Auto Tune is not a genre of music. It is a VST/RTAS plug-in used by a DAW for music editing. Just FYI...

Yes. Electro house. If you look at a lot of top performers in U.S. music today a lot of them have electro house influences in one or more of their songs. Kanye, Three 6 mafia, Akon, Taio Cruz, Sean Kingston, Kesha, Pitbull etc. All these performers are mainstream and their style is influenced a lot by artists already mentioned in this thread like Daft punk, Tiesto, Benny, Guetta etc.

Nerd alert. It makes music lose a distinguishing quality, so a quality house song gets downgraded. I speak conceptually, not technically.

You have no idea what electro house is. Please stop identifying all those artists with it.
