corgan played all the basslines on that album! :grin:

the fact that he made that record and gish just makes what he became all that much harder to bear - nirvana, pearl jam and the pumpkins all broke about the same time (fall 91) and i put the pumpkins head and shoulders above the other 2 - now i dont even like to admit being a one-time fan.

too many favorite basslines, but ill throw one of my favorite bassists who i havent seen mentioned yet - jah wobble, most famous from his days in PIL, but i love his solo stuff. very dub/world influenced - simple yet melodic and groovy - i love bassists like this, who just come in hold down the low end - nothing flashy.

and nice call on xtc and especially mike watt kipsta. here is a good example of watts bass playing if you are not familiar.

saw this a couple weeks back - carol kaye was the woman who played on a bunch of beach boys stuff - very popular 60's session bassist - didnt know that she did the brady bunch theme too - check this s*** out!

I don't know if this bass line is sampled, played on a synth, or actually produced by a guitar. All I know is that it belongs on any list of great bass lines.

Tons and Tons of bass on this album. Every song has massive bass.

 

His newer stuff is still pretty good. I've managed to find some favorites on every album he's done, and that includes his solo album and Zwan.

Smashing Pumpkins fans should have given Zwan a fair chance. I think Corgan wrote some great material for that band.

Another vote for Paul Macca, specifically in the the song Something. At 1:42 he blends his bass lines seamlessly to Harrison's guitar solo but still is creative enough to be a bass solo in itself. Also starting at 2:16 he has another brilliant bass line right underneath George's voice, countering the voice and surrounding music with the lows and highs of his bass.

My absolute favorite bass line... It's a beautiful song but Paul's bass really brings it together.

Also second The Who's "The Real Me".
