For the most part, today's music sux britney's peep hole But these are talented, good throwback indie bands that I actually like: Jet The Redwalls The Black Keys Robert Randolph band (I know I shortened it) Black Rebel Motorcycle Club The Black Crowes The Raconteurs Oasis( yeah I know they're not really recent) Gym Class Hereos Yes I know, I'm very selective in my musical tastes. Because all the good music were during the 70s and early 80s. Hippies rox sigh.....unfortunately I'm stuck in this era
The Guardan Unlimited (England) Top 50 for 2007 It is English-centric but there's not really much rock sound on it and personally there's not a one on the list I care about listening to more than once. Haha, 3 of the best albums that came out this year weren't even on that list in Interpol's 3rd album ("Our Love to Admire"), Wilco's 6th studio album ("Sky Blue Sky") and Bloc Party's 2nd album ("A Weekend in the City").
Great thread Manny. I really liked Hot Fuss over Sam's Town, mainly due to the heavy use of synthesizers in the first album. Don't get me wrong, Sam's Town is a pretty good album, but I thought Hot Fuss was one of the decade's best. Their new album of B-sides, Sawdust, has several outstanding tracks as well.
These are some of my favourite bands I've found out about in the past 4 years. Interpol Editors Mew Bloc Party Junior Boys Jose Gonzalez The National Beirut MIA The Rosebuds Royksopp Wolf Parade Coldplay Keane Arcade Fire The Killers Ratatat Arctic Monkeys Dappled Cities Delays Death Cab for Cutie Sound Team Voxtrot Tokyo Police Club Menomena Sufjan Stevens The Bravery Hot Chip
Lots of good new music out there. Some of my favorites mentioned here: Interpol My Morning Jacket Kings of Leon Silversun Pickups New Pornographers A few others: The Blue Van The Sights The Ike Reilly Assassination The Noras Trolleyvox
I am really pleased with these people: -Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, Amy Winehouse, Mark Ronson...neo-soul movement. -Clipse, Lupe Fiasco, Ghostface Killah -Franz Ferdinand, White Stripes, The Shins, Of Montreal, Arctic Monkeys, Panda Bear, The Black Keys, Soledad Brothers
Scott Matthews (iff you like Jeff Buckley, Chris Whitley, etc, you'll like this guy. He's freaking phenomenal.) Mute Math Arcade Fire (I'm really trying to like them) Wilco (I've known about them for a few years, but I LOVE Sky Blue Sky) The Broken West Jessie Malin Son Volt (another I've known about but not listened to until recently) The Long Winters Lucero The Hold Steady (one of my favorite new discoveries) The Damnwells This is all stuff I've discovered over the past year or so.
I'm a big fan of Jeff Buckley (may he rest in peace), so I'll be checking out Scott Matthews. Thanks!
Thanks Brightside. I have been meaning to check out The Editors and Arctic Monkeys for awhile. Who would you say they sound similar to? What do you think or know about British Sea Power?

Now that you mention it, there are some songs on that album that would sound like a Meat Loaf song; however, I like Meat Loaf, ha!
Editors' first album, The Back Room, sounds very much like Interpol. Their second album released earlier this year not so much. They were criticized for sounding too much like Interpol, so I guess they tweaked their sound. Arctic Monkeys have been compared to an upbeat Libertines. They have influences ranging from The Clash to The Smiths. They both have very strong releases. I dare say the Arctic Monkeys are the biggest band in the UK right now. I've been really pleased with local Texas talent in recent years from bands like Voxtrot, Explosions in the Sky, Midlake, Ghostland Observatory, Sound Team, and White Denim. Also Scandinavian rock has been strong in recent years with bands like Peter Bjorn, and John, Mew, Figurines, The Sounds, and Royksopp. I wasn't familiar with British Sea Power, until you just mentioned it. I'm listening to them on their myspace page, and it is pretty good. Thanks for the recommendation!
Looks like I am going to have to check out both The Editors and the Arctic Monkeys. You're welcome on British Sea Power. You'll have to let me know what you think about them once you get through an entire album of theirs.
